Cape May Republicans are urpei by the Star to make a atronp, utiiu.il cflort to aeoaro the Conpreaiioual ration for ca-Senator Leaminp, who it pronounce* a man in eeerr way qualified for the position. It rsmptalns that Cape May ban not of late years received the honor due it, owing to the fact that “a certain scoundrel, resident of the county, has given forth the impression that it ran be bought and sold at and is endeavoring to dicker ft pale.” The Star ahoold be mor pllclt and give the name of the "acoundrel” aforesaid, in order that the pco. Tie might be on their guard agnluat bis machinations.—Camden Covritr. - To suggest that there la necessity for naming the ■'scoundrel' referred to shows that the Courier la densely ignorant of Cape Stay politics,
or pretrada to be.
Congress Hall, under Mrs. Cak< management, this season baa enjoyed success in the fullest measure. Aside from the usual functious as s hotel, It has l>cen a place of cotcrtaiomcnt b which all Cape May society baa flocke. In the evening. The many especial en tertalnmenta provided bare done much to relieve all tedium in life here, and to supply a demand for eveuing picasure* which has existed for some years. It marka a step forward In the history of Cape May that the need for fitting evening entertainments has been so fully rcalized at Congress Hall, and that they have been so well provided and so well supported. The way is now open fer greater achievements in this line In succeeding seasons and as the knowledge of them spreaila abroad, the summer population of Capo May will increase, for the last lingering charge against the queen of tcaoru, that It is dull, will have been thus removed. It is noticeable that several other hotels here have been more ambitions in the matter of providing amusement than heretolore, and we shall hope to see a creditable emulation among them id this respect
One of the moat enjoyable privileges which the editors of the Dailt Stax possess is that of being able to say kind things to the public of those who deserve to be so mentioned, and we should feel that we had neglected a pleasau duty If we failed to nay a few words more of Mr. C. Oarviu Gilmame and the part he baa performed during season of 18#2 at Cape May. Th his second season at Congress Hall and aa his acquaintanceship enlarges, the number of his friends increases. He is a cultivated gentleman, the latter word In bis case, being truly descriptive, and hla friends at Cape May will add ‘-without fear and without reproach. Tot years there has been demanded here “more entertainment," and-.while Cong re** Hall has famished facilities, Mr Qllmalne baa provided and arranged entertainment*. In which were-shot fine appreciation of the needs of the resort and which were rewarded by remarkable success. As master of ceremonies he has made Congress Hall hop a pleasant eri which participants found unmlxed enjoyment undisturbed by any event to destroy its symmetry or harmony, brought here the Ladies' Schubert Quartette at great expense, for which he was responsible, bat he found immediate reward in the appreeiat ion of a
discriminating public.
He has thus proven to be a valuable factor In the suooeea of Congress Hall, and the season of 1 “92. We shall regret his absence, remember with pleasure bis genial presence and in oomn hundreds ol others, residents at Cape May during Una season, extend tc the heartiest good wishes fer his eesa, hoping to meet him here again In
the season of 189S.
