Be it ordained and enacted bv the inbabltanu of the City ol Cape May in City Council ataemblcd, and it Is hereby ensuted by the authority of same, That all bicycles, tricycles and similar vehicles, whan In use on the highways, streets, lanes and publio places of this city, shall have a Ump of such Illuminating power as to bo seen one hundred yards ahead, attached thereto and kept lighted, between one hour after ennaet and sunrise. Sec. 2. And he it farther ordained and enacted. That all snob bicycles, tricycles and similar vehicles shall carry a suitable alarm bell, attached to the handle bar of each vehicle, which when rung may be beard one hundred feet
distant.

And be it further ordained and enacted; That no person or persons shall be allowed to ride any bicycle, tricycle or similar vehicle, within the city limlta, at a rate of speed exceeding eight miles an hour, except as hereinafter provided. That no bic ycle, tricycle or similar vehicle shall be ridden upon tbe sidewalks or boardwalks of this city, provided, however, that this ordinance shall not apply to foot paths or portions of highways, etreeta, lanes or public places of this olty lying outside of tha thickly settled parts of the city, which are worn by travel and are not repaired by tbe city authorities or by the abutting owner. Sec. S. And be it further ordained and enacted. That the committee on Streets and iligbwaya,or s majority of them, may. in their discretion, upon any special occasion, grant permits to any person or persons to ride such . vehicle daring a special time, upon apecisi portions of the public ways o' the city, at any rate of speed, and may annex snch other leaaonable conditions as they shall deem proper, and they may also permit the use of velocipedes or other similar machines, by children, ou any such sidewalks, boardwalks and public ways of said city. Sec. 6. And be it farther ordained and enacted. That for each and every violation of tbe provisione of this ordinance, the Mayor or Alderman, may, upon oomplaint and due proof, impose such fine upon the offender or offenders, a* be may think proper, not exceeding tbe sum of five dollars tor each oflenoe, with ousts to be taxed, default of the payment of said id costs may commit aald offender to the olty or county jail until said fine and ooeu are paid.
