There is some question whether the same of the present year shall be written "M D C C C C” or M D C D or M C M. What is the objection to plain “1901?"
It is estimated that the losses from fire throughout the world amount every year from $150,000,000 to $200,000,000. Of course, the larger part of this falls upon the fire underwriters of the different nations.

The affection and esteem in which the Prince has been held was never better amplified than in December, 1871, when he was attacked by typhoid fever, and for some weeks hung between life and death. The anxiety of the public was intense, and the news

No isolation is so appalling as being alone amid a crowd. There was never a man who was not made nolder by loving the right woman. To outwit a foe is better than to slay him. The people of Australia are raising excellent cotton and they believe they can grow along their northern and northeastern coasts more of this fibre than they ran nae. They have long been the largest wool growers in the world. British manufacturers have argued that although Australia might raise enormous supplies of wool and cotton it could never make cloth because the atmospheric humidity required for spinning was lacking. But the needed humidity is now artificially supplied to spinning mills and there seems to be no reason why Australia should not make cotton and woolen cloth as well as provide the raw materials.

"Forty and a half." sung out the cutter of a Chestnut street tayloring firm as he passed the tape across a customer's chest. Thirty-eight was registered when the measure girded the customer's waist, and then the cutter stepped back and sized up the patron’s height as compared with that of the salesman who was recording the measurements. "Your weight is 165 pounds," he said. "One sixtyseven," spoke up the man who was being measured for a coat. "How did you guess it?" "No guesswork about it.
