HOT FIGHT WITH BULL
ENOCH TOMLIN, OF 0QLD 8PBIHG, EEOEIYES SERIOUS INJURIES. Thl Vicioni Animal War Getting the Better of the Argument When Mre. Tomlin Appeared. That a mad and Infuriated bull ia not the I oast dangerous thing In the world to trifle with was proven beyond tbe possibility of a doubt Sunday last. It was midday at Cold Spring, aa waa also midday in other parts of C*| May county, wbeu Mr. Enoch Tomlin, well-to-do farmer of that flourishing village, attempted to drive a vicious bull from tbe pasture. Tbe animal resented the interference with what It doubtless considered Its natural rights aod privilege*. and manifested its displeasure In no uncertain way by assuming a hostile
attitude.
Now when a bull assume* a poi of qffenae or defense, It ia a well-e I la bed fact, borne out by history, that If given a favorable opportunity, wbol and reckless destruction of life or prop-
erty Is sure to result.
With bead lowered Iu characteristically aggressive manner, with flaming eyes and uoKtrila dilated, and with tall si lug wildly In tbe air, tbe enraged I made a furious charge at tbe defenseless farmer. Seising a large fence rail, Mr. Tomlin succeeded iu repulsing tbe first stuck. This only served to Increase Iu
repulsing
lived to Ini
rage, and upon a renewal of the cunfilot tbe weapon wa* broken upon tbe animal'* bead. The farmer waa now at the mercy of tbe infuriated beast, and catching Mr. Tomlin about in the right position, gave him a toss Into tbe air of
several feet.
At this juncture, however, Mr*. Tomliu fortunately appeared upon and the animal's aUenliou being for the moment dlslracled, tbe Injured roan embraced tbe opportunity for escaping and rolled under* fence and out of barm's way, tbua coding an experience which might have resulted In a sanguinary
tragedy.
Aa a result of his terrible experience. Mr. Tomlin sustained a broken arm and leg, and It la also feared by tbe attending physicians that be to hurt inUrually. Tbe bull was killed Monday.
