SENSATIONAL WILL CASE MEYERS KEPT/IN CONTINUAL STATE OF INTOXICATION. Contest Over The Estate ol Charles Meyers Rcsulu In Startling Testimony. fitIIK contest orer the will of 'Squire 1 Charles Meyers, of Ocean City, which bewail before the Circuit Court, Judge Nixon presiding, .In coumy court house, at Cape May Court House on Monday, is probably one of the most sensational cases erer tried lu this county. The contest Is made on the ground that Meyers, who died at Ocean Cit* in 1897. leaving an estate valued at .uea^y 1200,000, was unduly lufluonoed by hla second wife to out off the children of a former wife with a nominal share of his wealth. Tbe plaintiff's attorney former Judge Wes toot t and Mai Jefferson, of Camden, and the defendani'a case is being taken care of by R. O. Moon, of Philadelphia, and Score! —Boyle, of Camden, Meyers was for years a councilman in Philadelphia, but for the pay twelve years preceding hla death he haB resided at Ocean City, where be amassed hla for. tunc. Tbe plaintifl, Mrs. Henry A. Dcrochc, of Ocean City, a modest looking young woman, who appears to have scarcely passed twenty, was on the aland nearly five hours on Monday, and unreservedly told the court and jury her side of tbe story. She said that Sallie M. Biffin came to keep house for her father in 1882, at srblch time they resided 2358 North 8th street, Philadelphia, A hbort time after that sbe waa told the woman waa her step-motbhr, and a year later, at the age of seven, eke and her sister were sent to the convent at Chestnut Hill, remaining lu that Institution about nine years. Sbe also testified that on tbe night preceding her father's death her step-mother slipped quietly into ber robm and after ascertaining that she, the 'witness, waa asleep, went' into tbe bath i^ora and thence Into tbe sick man’s room, on emerging from which she waa heard to matter: "Ood forgive me if be should die for what { have done this night." Harry Delioche averred that at the time Moyers died the widow came down stairs and said: "Pop's last words to me were: "You get dosrn out of this room. All you waut la to get me out of the way for my

money."

This witness testified that Mrs, Meyers had administered a large dose of laudahum and oil to her sick husband the night before be died. Mrs. Annie Hamccbere, of 2703 Pratt street, Brideaburg, eldest daughter of tbe defendant, said ber father first married her mother about 1844, their children numbering eighteen; sbe died in 1889, and in leM_th&n a year be married Mary PerguSOiT, wbo'lived five years and bore him four children.
