Tbe contemplated improvement and betterment of tbe water anppiy of this resort is already attracting attention and eliciting much favorable comment. The gist of the now work is that engineer Hatton will settle three artesian wells 800 feet deep, guaranteeing a supply at least four times as great os the present system affords. Mr. Hatton about a year ago introduced a similar system fori Lewes, Del., and tbe town is more than satisfied with the result. Cape May will thus be given an abundance of as pure aud whole*->rae water as any In the Slate.

An Impartial Revle w of Subjects Under Thought--The Talk

of the Gossips.

HE RECENT course adopted by what Is known ** tbe Beef Trust, and tbe unprecedented and alto gothcr unnecessary and inexcusable high prices demanded for the most important articles of food, have perforce elicited so much comment and severe criticism upon tbe part of the metropolitan press and the pubUc at large, that any comment made upon tbu subject made by any of little seaside journals might be regarded as 6f but little consequence, to parison, and of no use or influence. But the IIkhai.d must hare its say and utter its word of condemnation. That the course of tbe Trust, in its effects upon the public generally is one of the most stupendous outrages capital has ever attempted to perpetrate upon the American people, goes without aayiog. It is simply colossal highway robbery, for the punishment of which, unfortunately, there d< not seem to bo sufficient law. The fact that tbe gentlemen who control the affair* of this Trust are already millionaires, seeens to be no bar to the gralifiextion of their rapacious greed by adopting the roost outrageous drastic measures to draw millions more, beyond legitimate profile, from tbe poorer and middle class, until they cry aloud— Where is the freedom of the country of whose liberty we have never tired of singing, and where is the prosperity of which we so generously boast. A republic wbcie any by dubious methods and sharp practices become millionaires, six' which these same roilliooaircs can by virtue of their wealth grind tbe faces of the poor to tbe accumulation of millions more, baa not much to boast of before

The evil does not lie so much iu

fact that trusts have been formed or that combination of capital' exists, as In the other fact now so disastrously apparent,

that a lack of personal honor, true business principles, has come

to mark tbe pathway of their progress, and tbe public become victims of heartless ncrcenaries and pompous promotors of schemes to enrich themselves st tbe expense of those whom Uiey can

deceive or defraud.

Unless the efforts being made to break

the power of the Meat Trust aweoeed, business at the summer roaorta this season most necessarily be hampered and seriously interfered with. Not moats alone will be hu uncertain quantity, but a thing of uncertain quality as well, except as to a certainty of high prioea, but the dire control of the trust Is reaching out over other articles of food, and conBurners will therefore be completely 1 their mercy. Those who manage public bouse* are already perfectly't sea in tbe

matter .of making prices for board,

butter and eggs and vegetables, fresh and canned, are to be bad only at trust prices, tbe conclusion may aa well be arrived at quickly that prices of sum-

The Beef Trust extortion is worse than the now notorious Asphalt crime in that it touches every home and ia far reaching in its blight. A prominent Baptist ciergymau iu Philadelphia on Sunday, preaching upon the subject of “Mistakes about Hell,’’ remarked that, if there waa not really a place of punishment, there ought to be oue, for the

wicked Beef Trust.
