TOWNS SWEPT BY FLOODS.
Buffalo. N. Y. (Special).—A terrific rain and wind storm swept over Western New York. Rivers and creeks rose rapidly, overflowing their banks and sweeping away houses and barns and live stock. The loss will reach into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Telegraph and telephone wires are down, and communication with small towns in city was not in Ae path of the storm. A dispatch from Arcade says the flood at that place claimed one victim and did many thousand dollars' damage to property. Minnie Lopcr. who kept a bak cry on the bank of the creek, was drowned early in thc day. The downpour and the cloudburst above the village turned Ac creek into a torrent. Thc water rose rapidly and was several feet deep on the lowlands before anyone realized thc danger. Miss Loper's bakcfhop was swept ont into the stream, but it had not gone far before it fell apart.
