lust forsake the world. In Abram’s sep■ration from Lot he is a perfect illuatration of the demand made in the New Testament that we must, if we would be filled with the Holy Spirit of God, separate our■elves even from the flesh. There is ■ great battle waging, as we find when we read the connection of the text with other verses of Scripture. It is written in Genesis xiv: li-ltt—"And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive he armed his trained servants, born in bis own house, 31S, and pursued them unto Dan. And be divided himself •gainst them, he and his servants, by Bight, and smote them, and pursued them onto Hobah. which ia on the left hand of Damascus. Many a man has cone down just where Abram stood. God is always riving us tests of character. Read very carefully tbe twenty-first to the twenty-fourth verses of tbe fourteenth chapter of Genesis, and notice Abram's anrwer: "And the king of Sodom aaid unto Abram, Give me the persons and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, that I will no*, take from a thread even to a shoelachet. and that 1 will not take anything that is thine lest thou sbouldest ssy. our sins away, as far "as the east is from tbe west.’' it is an inspiration for us to know that when Jesus Christ died on Calvary He not only died to set us free from the penalty of sin in the sight of God, but by His death we are set free from the power of sin in onr own lives. When one becomes discouraged and finds that he of himself cannot keep from sin, the evil bird comes to whisper once again: "You need expect it. You have been born with a tendency to sin. You have been cursed with an appetite. Your old nature ia still with yon." All of which we know and believe, are faithful students of our own nature and of the word of God. But this is no license to sin, for if we confess our sin God’s word is out that He will be “faithful and just to forgive us our sins;" that is. He will be faithful to Christ, who has carried our sin away. Isaiah’s picture in tbe fifty-third chapter of his prophecy is a pictura cl Jesus Christ as the scapegoat, bearing through the wilderness the weight of our tint. For every evil bird that comes to discourage us or to discredit - God’s word there ts a sure way by which they may be driven from us. The word of God ia our defense, and you have but to hold up to Satan, whose scents these evil birds are. ~— "It is written," and be will
