held the office for some year* and who was considered a ve>y strong opponent. In 1900 he was re-elected, but with of the hardest fights in the county, is an avowed opponent of Senator Robert K. Hand, whose forces placed one of the strongest man in their factn Mr. learning E. Hughes, on the ticket as Mr. Hoffman's opponent. The battle was stubbornly contested, but it ended with a majority for Hoffinan of 74. It was largely through the' eflorts of Mr. Hntlman last fall and due somewhat to the popularity of the candidate that Mr. Hoffman defeated Senator Hand a candidate for delegate to the' Republican county convention as an opponent of thc re-nomination of Assemblyman Lewis M. Oesse. At the caucus last week Mr. Hoffman was again re-nomi-nated for collector, and the friends of Senator Hand named as his opponent Mr. Milton Taylor. Mr. Hoftnan has made an excellent official, and his work meets with the approval of the residents and tax payers of the township. Conservative thinkers believe he will
be re-elected.
