He stands well with the present State administration and has an influence there greater than any one else. For this reason. If for no other, he ought 10 lie sent to Teuton, and it appears that the people of Ca|ie May county realire this condition more vividly than was at first lielieved. I>aring the past week all ( the property owners have received their tax billa, and they can now walk up to the collector’s oflice and settle up. if they deal re. Many of our people have been somewhat amused at the great amount of advertising on the envelopes in which 'they have received their tax bills. They wer« nut quite certain whether the envrloties contained a circular of the buainesses cot ducted by the man wholtappens to tie lax c,Jlector, or whether they contained the more serious piece of paper which they eventually received. The city certainly ought not to be compelled to pay for this great mass of printing, but on the other hand the tax collector should pay the dtj; a large sum for the use of the city's stamps in •msflihg his adrertisNtoents to persons . he otherwise could not reach.

It is currtntly reported that Tax Collector James H. Kdmund*. who for ten year* wra* mayor of Cape May, elected each time as a Democrat, will be a candidate for that oflice tbis year aod will go before the Kepublican voters for the honor. Mayor Millet has not yet announced his candidacy for re-election and it is not knowji whether he desires the place again. He has served five years very acceptable to the dtisena of
Cape May.
Mayor Millet as a Kepublican defeated M/. Kdmunds us a Democrat five years ago for the position, and three years ago was so .uccesafuJ in securing the Republican nomination, over the plan set up by Mr. Edmund* that the Demi crats simply endorsed him and he was- . almost unanimonslv re-elected.
While it is understood that tbose who are attempting to manage this municipality have picked out their candida'e for every.office to be filled, the peoplt have sot yet been informed as to the names of those who are to be presented to them for their suflerage at the September primaries. It is to be hoped, however that each man Is qualified to perform the duties which will be imposed upon him. It is very important that the city shall have coundlmen who will be progressive and yet economical. Aa the matter stands today the city has already entered into contracts for something like 520,000 more than the amonnt for which they have iasoed bonds aod , made appropriations. Vice-Chancellor Pitney evidently does not sympathise with the net timent of the mnnber* of the courts which precludes them from expressing their opinions on the proposed constitutional an i end menu He presided over a meeting of the Morris Goonty Bar Association. on Saturday afternoon, that unanimously voted to endorse the amendments, and-the venerable Vice-Chancel-lor, who is president of the association, made aa eloquent argument in their favor. The judges know better than any one the need of relief to the courts and the voters hare a right to look to them for information and advice Sow that Mr. Pitney has set the example, we may expert others to follow It.
It is to be hoped that those who interested in the establishment of a Carnegie library here will not reUnquiab their effort* towards what is really desired by the better thinking element of - our atixena. We need this library, s« we do everyth!ug which will tend to promote the intellectual development of our mfidenu, and aO of ns will be benefited by what others learn, even if we do not learn ourselves.
Cage Kay's future Is bright With two new modern hotels In prospect erection, and increased presage, apparently we are <-n the road of prosperity.
