Whatever bill finally comeii out of the conference which the Republican a bem of the Finance Committee of the ,Sena'e have been holding at Senator Aldridi'a residence and at Oyster Bar, it is already clear, from various reporta, that all concern,d, President and Senaare wiae enough to see that no bill tain be paased next winter which attempts too much or raise* too many contentious muea. Some improvement should be made in the currency. B better on all secoiyils to secure a substantial advance by a moderate bill than fail of any progress by a bill which attempts too much. Col. WiUiatn J. Bryan ia quoted saying-of Senator Gorman that ,l selection as Democratic leaded m Senate as* a great mistake on the part of the iH iiiocratir Senators and a great misfortune to the -party at large." Which, curioualy enough, exp:canes the exact idea of probably ^majority of the Demicrata of the country at this time regarding Col. Brvan hlmaelf.

Tlje friend* ofSenator Hand are try ing to convince nnnuspecting person: that Assemblyman Crease baa not been loyal to South Jersey daring the past three year* that he baa been a nienrtier of the House of Assembly at Trenton. Aa one of Senator Hand'* staunchest lieutenants puts it,£It's a long story, but when it resolves itself down to tl mere facta the story is verglaconic. The fact of the matter is that Senator Hand and the crowd with which be trained at Trenton, all ofVhom are now out job, desired the election of ex-Senator Charles A. Keed, of Somerset county, a* ^ State Treasurer Mr. Cresae supported for this positaon Frank A. Briggs, Trenton, who was elected. Trenton nearer South Jeraey than i* '^Somerset county Mr. Hand also supported for the United .States Senate, moat of the time during the recent battle, Congressman . Henry C. J/judenalager, who lives in Gloucester county; while Assemblyman Crease supported, from start to finish, Clerk in Chancery Kdward C. Stokes, «>f Cumberland county. Anyone familiar with the geography of tbi* State knowi that Cumtwriand county adjoins Cape May, aud that Assemblyman Crease, therefore, supported the man living nearest South Jeraey.

' The ridiculous argument is being used by Senator Hand’s friends in this section that tbe election to the Senate of Lewi* ii. Cresae will lie prejudicial to the interests of Cape May City aa a resort. To those who know Mr. Oe*se, no refutation of this fact hi needed. He 1*' tori broad minded to forget the fact that he represents tbe whole county, aod not a portion of it- Cape May City has only needed Mr. Cresae’* assistancebmonce, and then it was cheerfully and promptly given. When tbe proposed improvements fur Cape May were bripg lint agitated, it became necessary that boim legislation should be enacted to enable Cape May to borrow money to carry out the contemplated improvements. He not only was prompt in iu rapport, hot took the trouble to come to Cape May and feel tbe temper of its dtixens, and aa soon aa he found out that they wanted the regulation, he pushed it through . the Assembly, notwithstanding the fact that there was opposition by tbe nltra conservative element here. It did take him as long to get it through tbe House a* it did for Senator Hand to get it through the Benat*.

So much has been said by the Rear of the Capt, tbe principal stock of which is owned by State Senator Robert F. Hand, aboot-the ownership of tbe Cara May Hnuu> and the intimation that Ai blyman Crease is its owner, that it is about time for that paper to get n to the troth. The fact la that Assemblyman Cresae doea not own a cent’* worth of interest in the paper, and has never had any intereat is it whatever. He la not even a subscriber to tbe Hxaaui, which may even surprise ( the ate*-’,
