BECAME QUITE MUCH EXCITED OVER RUMORS.

The Democrats talked rathereontdaatly of what their party is going to do In Cape May ooauly, at the Inler-elaW Pair

of the more timid Republicans nerroda. Thla slats of affairs caused aoroa of the > leaders to tdke a look at the matter carefully. Tbs Democrats were declaring that the ftgbt for the senatorial nominal ion Cape M y, which Senator Robert E Hand lust Asaemb yman Uwla M. Creese, had !■*«-•-me so bitter that the Hand men would knife Crease at the polls, so that s Democratic senator O'HI Id be elected. They also said that Senator Hand had offered to help the Democrats elect their oounty ticket next fall if they would help elect him to the Senate on an indeprix

ticket.

The Democrats were sure of tl esc s a, especially when they saw Mr. Or draw to our aide st different times with United Slates Senator Kean, aho war said to be behind Senator Hand In the flght; with David Bnrd. the Camden lesdi with Secretary of State Samuel D. Dickinson, and other prumin -ut men lit the party who are pupultrly supposed to bestow valuabli assistance lu a matter of this kind. The minds of the timid Republicans were much relieved when Senator Hand, wbo was present, stepped forward and declared be waa for the ticket without reservation, and that there waa no troth In the statement that he would participate Id any movement that would aid In electing the Democratic ticket lu Cape May.

County Collector Stillwell'* Position. Id vpeaking about the fact that Mr. Rice had at last consented to run for Senator, Opt. I^w * Stillwell, County Collector, on Wednesday aaid that “while it was evident the Democrats were counting on defeating Mr. Crease because of diaaeattons In the rank* of the Republican party this Fall, be guessed that they would find out on election day that no matter how much Republicans here might differ lu their preliminary contests, they were too good RepubHcani to let the Democrats hood-wink them into electing a Democrat to the Senate. While Crease had not been his choice for the nomination, aw no reason why, now that he was nominated, be should not be elected. Captain Stilwell is very close to Senotor Hand, and hi* remark* above quoted ought to aet at rest many of the foolish rumor* which have been aet afloat by over-xealous Democrats. In every instance, when traced to their origin. e rumors have beeh found to have

had a Democrat parent.

Miaa Meerwald entertained her sister 'from Dean lav ilia oo Friday. Mrs. Silas Shaw passed last week In Philadelphia with bar husband.

Crease's ’Tajorttlei Grow. That Lewi* M. Oesae, the Republican nominee for Slate senator main tains a hold upon bis popularity with the people, goes without saying. He has been before tht people daring the past three irs and waa elected by over a thousand majority at his first election. Two years ago his majority waa something seven hundred. Last year, when be ran in the Republican primaries had a majority in his party caucuses of about four hundred and fifty and when election day came be had a majority of twelve hundred and five in the county This year, notwithstanding the fact that a moat bitter flght waa made against him and all kinds of schemes and underhanded and unprincipled efforts were made to defeat him be came ont of the flght with a greater majority in the primaries than last year, having over fii hundred and twenty more votes than Senator Hand.
