The maas of the population at tbit country have thought, or cared, bat little about the Alaskan boundary dispute that an Anglo-Amarlsan commlaalon are now trying to uattla la London other than that Canada claimed certain territory over which the American flag was flying, and the mass of the population have hoped the |Ug would rmnain whether the territory over which It was flying was of any value or not Had the queetlon now In dispute been submitted to a commission s few yean ago. and had the award then been In favor of Canada It would not have been considered so great a loss to this country as It will should Capada win at the present time. Then there was but little more than barren mountains, glaciers, half-frozen Inlets to dispute over. Bui

Canada Will Get Two Typical American Towns If Wo Lose.
A STREET IN SKAOWAY. If Canada should win at the present time, and the commission say that h< Interpretation of the boundary was correct, as It may say. what will be the suit* For one thlna two typical American towns will suddenly be transformed Into Canadian towns. Patriotic American citizens will awaken some morning find the stars and stripes replaced by the union Jack, and the British Bobble patrolling a beat Instead of the American copper. Both Dyea and Skagway, lying at the head of the Lynn canal, are In the disputed territory. Both places were built practically at a result of the discovery of gold In the Yukon territory In 1896, and control the traffic of the gold fields over the inland route. SbotM the contentions of Canada be upheld not only would America loee these two towns, but the control of this traffic besides, for Canada claims that, as the Lynn canal is more than three miles wide. It cannot be closed to the world's shipping, and with the head ot the capol In the hands of Canada that ^eup^ry would control the traffic to the Ybkon Such a decision would give to Canada the unobstructed control of the best harbor on the North Pacific coast. But Canada stands to lose as well as to gain. The beginning of the International boundary line through Portland channel Is tn dispute. This Inlet
