Experience not 'Beceasary. A. Bad EflW-t. This country is not cynics! at heart in pclitics, although it is often charged with being so, and with lacking moral indignation. Hie volume of disgust aroused by Mr. llearst ts a proot that we are still far from the moral indiflerence that marks decay. real are the shame and displeasure with which the nation sees this agitator’s tncks that the result ol his adventure is likely to b<* good, ills campaign money, his pandering to every discontent, and his trumpet advertising of himself have ta^en him as far air&e c in go. His defeat at St. Louis in likely to be more than a railure get the nomiugtioo. Unless Mr. Bryan is able and willing to secure some anchor for his lieutenant, Mr. (leant is likely to sink in power even in his newspaper industry; for lailure, like success, is something of a snowball and grows In size by merely 'fco* D l t on. We have considerable hope therefore, that Mr. Heant’s success in calling attention to wl at be stands for will re’ suit in so consolidating and heightening the feeling against that moral debauchery on which the Hears! newspapers have their base, that the young adventurer may be diminiabed not only in politics, but in the held where he has bought an evil lead. The anger and due tress which are now supplanting curiosity and ridicule are a sign of earnest oeas and principal in the people which we are glad to see, and those emotions, we believe, are aroused fundamentally by the knowledge that in journalism, where Mr. IIearst has given the the fnlldit: measure of his nature, he has been mein, self-seeking, and void of any sign of honor or the better life.

CONDENSED DISPATCHES.

A Prevailing Kulaance.

Every city In New Jersey suflers an intolerable and constantly growing nuisance from the failure of the muhidpal authorities to provide some comm n dumping ground for garbage. Many pretty dells, woods, thickets and places of natural wildness and beanty in the snbarbs of Cape May are defiled with hid eon* and vile-smelling debris, dumped there on the sly by the garbage carters. The same is true of every city, town and village in the State. Inmany cares the entire suburban region becomes litered with newspaper wrappers, railroad and express way bills, shipp ; ng tags, old bags, wrapping paper, rags, pasteboard boxes, and other light waste' that is scattered in every’ direction by the winds- It lodges in fences, m hedges, among •bobbery, and all over the meadows and lawns. Most of this could be more easily and cheaply burned on the premises than carted away and dumped Why people will persist in thus coverl log beautiful places with ugliness and defilement passes com prehension, but they do, and the only remedy Lies in the city providing a place where it may be dumped without becoming a nuiveral nuisance. The spot at Columbia avenue and Jeflerspn street Is a hideous sight, and council should have it cleaned up

Arrived at the tense. Jokal put his bead out of the carriage window, say* the Glasgow Herald, declaring that be had left three premises more than three months, a fact which te had for some moments post teen endeavoring to explain to them. Nothing therefore remained hot for the students, with many a hearty laugh, to
