Cape May.
The prominence of some of the men ar rested has created h good deal of comment Angnstao Hilton is Mayor of Anglesea, aod Frank E Smith is Mayor of Holly Beach. George S. Smith is president of the Wildwood Bank. Most of these men have been engaged in the business of pound-net Ashing for nearly 30 year*, and some of them for a longer time. This is the Arst time that they hare been haled to Court. It is not known who the complainants against them are. but they suspect that the move was made by the pole-aad-line Ashermen, who have been trying for years to have the New Jersey Legislature enact a law pntting the poundnet Ashermen out of business. The Federal statute nnder which the indictments were found was passed by Congress March 8. 18». It prohibits the creation of any obstruction not affirmatively authorized by Congress to the navigable csqmcity of any of the waters of the United States. The law provides that it shall not be lawful to build or commence the build*lng of any wharf, wiw, dolphin, pier, tweak water, bulkhead, jetty or other structures In any port, roadstead, Haven, harbor, canal, navigable river or other waterwav except on plans recommended by the chief of engineers aad authorized by the Secretary of War. Violation of the act U deemed a misdemeanor, punishable by a One not exceeding $£900 nor lees than •M0, or imprisonment not exceeding one year, or by both fine and imprisonment, to the discretion of the Court. The date for the trb#of the men baa not been fixed, bat It is understood that they wDl make a strenuous fight on the ground that their nets are not an obstruction to

New Cape May U rapidly becoming a substantial reality. Evidence of the vast expenditure of money and indefatigable effort* is apparent. The New Cape May lie* to the eastward of the present city, extending for two and one-half mile* along the Atlantic Ocean and over a mile inland, comprising a tract of 8600 acres which Ims never been built upon. This vast property. owned by the Cape May Real Estate Company, beaded by former Senator WllFlinn prominently Identified, with great business enterprises: Peter Shields and other Pittsburg capitalists, is bring developed along the most up-to-date lines Into a superb seaside resort the finest beach in the world. Already a considerable tract has been filled and graded, two immense suction dredges of great capacity being used. The sand is being pumped from the thoroughfare that ran* through the property and that, aa the dredging continues will become a great inland harbor with an area of from S00 to TOO acres, with an average depth of 85 feet. Quite a basin bsa already been formed and rapidly growing in extent. The entrance to this harborJs from the sea and will be 850 feet wide.protected by jeUies extending 5000 fret Into tbeocean. Request has been made of the Government to provide and maintain this entrance in order that this Immense harbor of safety may become available in Qie Interests of shipping and commerce, fitere being no harbor along this coast from tbe Atlantic Highlands to tbe Capes. Tbe United States Senate, during the session recently dosed, nnanimoosly provided by resolution to be gin the preliminary work on this harbor entrance bat tbe matter has been tempo rarily halted by tbe House deciding not to pass any river and harbor bills until tbe
next session of Congress.
