YOUNG PEOPLE SURPRISE FRIENDS 1m KllutlM-iti WoolMin .xl Mr. Socratsw Mt-Plicraon Married. A quiet wedding was solemnised on Wednesday evening air the parsonage of the Kev. K- A. WeMa, pastor of Uie Taberuacle church, at Erma, when Mias Elisabeth Woolaon, eldest daughter of Captain and Mrs. Swain Woolaon, became the bride of Mr. Socrates McPherson, ton of Mr. and MrsT David McPherson, of Cold Spring. The marriage was a great surprise to the many fhends of the yonng couple, as no announcement was made nor any invitations sent ont. If was the wish of the young people to have a private wedding. The bnde is the leading belle of Cape May Point, her father being captain of the lighthouse there. She is also a great favortite among the younger set, and has many friends in the summer cottage Colony of the Point. * Miss Woo Ison was attired in white silk, and carried white roses. There were no attendants. Mr. and Mrs. McPherson will makt their home at Cold Spring. The Hkxald joins with the numerous friends of the young people in wishing them a long and happy life together.

MOKK LIGHTS XfCKDKD. 1 mx>oreiilence Caused by Tbelr l-u-rten Distribution. Tbe recent highway robbery of Mrs. Maris, which is alleged Co hare been due to having some dark places in the city, call to mind tbs fact that there is a very uneven distribution of lights. borne places about town have an electric light and a gas lamp directly under each other, while other places for long stretches hare neither kind of light. As long as the city will pay for the grs lampe in tbe end and is paying for a number of electric lights along Madison avenue and up Beach avenue, it might Just as well pay for a few more and have some of of the dark spots illuminated.

Why Don’t They Heed? Council has yet done nothing with the dump at the corner of Columbia avenue and Jefferson street and the people of the neighborhood are becoming highly indignant at tbe criminal negligence of that t^ody. Tbe street committee, it seems, attempted to take the matter In hand, but have done nothing. One citisen offered his services to superintend the burning of the trash provided the city would take two or three men off its street service to dear upthe eyesore. This would toe money well expended and would be just as good an advertisement for the town as is money expended on other things. A dean town is much better than lota of noise and too much diit.

The Saturday evening dance* were very Urge events, many people attending them at the Shoreham and Carlton. It has been so popular that not only on Saturday evening do they dance, but every night of the week it devoted to it The hotel proprietors are not averse to it in tbe least. Tbe dances at the Carlton attract the most people. A special orchestra renders music at this place Cud the excellent rendition of tbe different selections adds mudrito the pleasures of dsndng.
