TIGHT CLUB DINES CAPT. BARR First Infbrmal Function of Season Given at B^llevae-Stratfbrd. The Cape May Yacht Club held its first annual dinner in the Believue-Stratford, Philadelphia, last Thursday evening, and the affair was one of the jolliest informal functions that has been held in the hotel in a long while. When a number of yacht owners get together there is bound to be a good lime and such was the caac that evening. . ^ And among the guests was a man who is known the world over as one of the greatest yachting skippers that haa ever twirled the wheel. He was Captain Charlie Barr, the man who has sailed so many cup defenders to victory and thr man who next month will sail the schooner yacht Atlantic in the great race across the Atlantic Ocean for the German Emperor’* cap. Captain Barr did not make a speech at the'dinner. In fact, there is nothing on earth he dreads mor^ than making a speech in public. On the ocean, in command of a racing yacht, be is snpreme.bat at a dinner party he is the reverse, and so be waenot called upon for any remarks. Mayor Weaver was one of the principal speakers of the evening end like thoee who followed him be referred to the excellent boating at Cape May and then paid a glowing tribute to Captain Barr, who, he hoped, wquld win the ocean race. ♦ There were no regular set toasts bat most of the guests were called upon for remark* and affaire at Cape May, both from a yachtman’a and a ■'landlubber's" point of view were thoroughly d I aniseed. Robert Neakirk and thtir children were In extreme danger from suffocation by smoke, caused by tbe fire which started from the open grate in Ibeir oottage at IW7 Beach Avenue.
