The president dismounted and. after waiting In order to avoid hitting the dog*, pumped aeveral shot* Into the badly fagged bear, kill-

ing him.

It was a cinnamon bear, weighing ahont 600 pounds. Goff skinned the animal, and the party finally succeeded In reaching camp about 5 o'clock. A parade had been planned at Newcastle. but It did not take place. It had been arranged to form a procession, led by a miner*’ bras* band, a caged beai and the president's party on horseback. Long before the time appointed for tbs distribution of free ticket* the •tain of the Masonic temple, at tb# southeast corner of Washington street and Capitol avenue, were crowded with a pushing, yelling crowd of children, mostly newsboys, each anxious to be first to receive a paaa. When the distribution^began the excitement became more Intense, and the efforts of severs I policemen to maintain order

were unavailing

pMOGHS, April 18.—Disturbances incident to the strike of workmen employed in the porcelain Industry were more serious last evening. Striker* demanded the release of those of their comrades who were arrested Sunday night and on being refused attempted to force their way Into the prison. Mounted troops arrived at the scene, but the strikers tore down the fences In the vicinity, erected barricades and raised red and black flag*. The cavalry charged, several times, bat the bones fell among wire and rope entanglements. The police commissary called on the strikers to disperse, and the response was a volley of stones.
