The Uaa Company Halt Many of our citlxens ere thinking eeriously and hoping that Cape May Oily will win the salt brought by David Baird, ol Camden, for the Cape Inland Gas Company for the recovery of about *8,000.00 alleged to be due upon the contract made some year* ago between the City and the Gas Company, and which contract was repudiated by City almost immediately alter its making. The contract, however, was never signed by the officials. t-ince the making of this contract the Gas Company has made a subsequent agreement with the city under which it ir receiving 1160.00 per month for lights and allowance for this seems to have b made in the claim of Mr. Baird. During all of this time that the Gas Company has been receiving $160.00 per month, the taxes on their plant in this city have not been paid, neither have their franchise taxes been paid. As sequence the city is paying them money continually when they ought to be talcing it and crediting it on account of their taxes. The dty is borrowing money at 5 per cent, to meet the appropriations made on these 1 ties, and the citizens themselves ought tc make some move toward bringing this delinquent corporation to terms There course, some smaller tax payers who are in arrears, but the Gas Com pan; item is the largest and. therefore, aitractsjbe most attention.

Following The Prcaklent The outlook at the'National Capitol compels the old timer* to keep pinching themaelvea to see if they are wide awake. They never knew anything hke it. The only thing they ever knew smcli approached it was in the administration of James, Monroe. They see the whole discussion around Congress turning on I matter of ItieTedetsJ regulations of railroad rates, and yet they .call attention'to the fa t that it has not been endorsed by the party In power. On the other hand, they call attention to the fact that H baa been made a party creed by the Democrats campaign after campaign. They find all the energies of the President bent in the direction of having passed a bill which he took np after he was elected, and which did not figure in the campaign when be was elected, and they discover that the leaden of bis own party are bending to his will loctantiy and with scowling facet, while the opposition is coming to belp^him along with ahouta and cheers of good wilL They find Mr. Roosevelt the dominating figure, and see that, for the fita time in the history of the fiepublicai party, a president baa risen above per. tiaanahip, has cracked his finger* at it in acorn, end found another way of compliahing things than waiting for the party causes to declare what the programme shall be.
