If a bill now before the New Jersey Legislature becomes a law there will be tie more political conventions. It baa as ita purpose the nomination of every officer by primary election. Such a bill would prove entirely satl«factory, no doubt, to politicians as well as the people, as the convention system la entirely too primitive. People are tired of electro* delegates to have them go to a convention and probably upset their intentions as expressed at the ballot box. If primirie* are responsible each voter aelects his own 1 and doea not entrust bis vote to a legate who may do just the oppomte from what was intended The bill *** likely become a law.
A Good Bill From the Newark Advertiser. The opposition to Senator Cornlsh'i bill, requiring each psekage and bottle of patent medicine to be labeled with a list of its ingredients, is taking a very peculiar form. It la, in substance, a demand that every phyiician’a prescription shall be written in plain English and not in the Latin and medical hieroglyphics now in use. The claim is that the patient has aa much right to know the ingredients of a doctor's prescription aa he has to know what la patent medidne be buys and swallows. This is not strictly correct. Every physician worthy ol the name has made thorough study, under the moat favorable auspices, of the hnman system and all Its ailments, and an equally thorough study of the medicines moat efficient as curatives. All this a tody la supplemented by years of observation, ex per ience and practice under the moat instructive condi I ions and the most impressive responsibility. Doctors know as nq others can know what is the matter with patients and what medianea are best for them. With patent madid nee it la entirely diflerent Interested and ignorant people make the diagnosis and take they know not whaL It is often best for patienta not to kpow what the doctors prescribe. Is is best for all to know what patent medicines are made of; they will then refuse to take most of them, and will be better for IL
