A special committee of the New Jereey Senate baa begun an inveaUgatioo of the business of inanrance companies this State, under ioalractiona from the recent Legislature. It will endeavor to determine flrat what limitations should be placed upon investment* by these companies, and this may aflect holdings of railroad securities, as was the case in Sew York. It U also instructed to ascertain, second, what limitations should be placed upon the kind policies to be issued; third, whether preferred dividend policies should be permitted; fourth, whether political contributions by insurance companies should be allowed, and filth, as to whether the power* of the Banking and Insurance Commissioner should be en-
