FACTS IN FEW LINES No Scandal In Government. There exlata throughout the country a keener Internet than usual In the affaire erf government, and an aroused public conscience, intolerant of cor ruptlon. It bolding to a etrict account the actions of political part lea and their leaders. While It may bapieu that through misguided meat or nmhi tlon to obtain political power false charges are sometime* brought against those In authority. It la unquestionable that the people strongly desire to Intel Ugently correct evils existing In their governments. This Is equally true of the several states and the nation. This popular desire may and should lead to the loss of power by those who have proven false to their trust The He publican party of New Jersey welcomes the closest scrutiny of Its con-, duct of public affairs. It hat nothing to fear from an honest and Intelligent criticism of Its motive* and leader ship. Criticism founded upon Ignorance and misrepresentation will not appeal to an Intelligent and truth loving people. Twelve years ago, with dele pride hurt and Indignant at an Improper administration of government by the Democracy, a majority of the people of New Jersey turned to the Republican party, placing upon It the responsibilities of government Since the Republican party came Into power In 1884 no scandal has attached to the financial administration of the state. There has been handled by state officers since ISM $30,000,000 to $100. 000.000 of public moneys, and every penny has been honestly accounted for. No question has ever been raised as to the integrity of tbs state's financial departments While the legislative appropriations bare been liberal, they bare been made only after careful pruning, and the state’s expenditures ordinary and extraordinary, have always been kept well within the annual Income, so that there bat been a constantly Increasing treasury surplus. Millions of this expenditure are now represented In reel estate assets owned by tbs state and devoted to necessary public objecta. In his last annual message Governor Georg* T. Warts said: “New Jersey, with no tax for state purpose* and practically out of debt Is unique among her sister states. No such showing can be made by any other state, nor. I apprehend. by any delated nation anywhere.” If such a Jubilant comment could be mads by s governor at the dose of the year 1909, what language would be too extravsgant to characterIxe the conditions In the state In 1908. after twelve years of Republican legislation and Republican administration! Primary Reform and Representative

Appreciating the defects existing In the old methods of nuking party nominations, the Republican party, under Governor Morphy's administration, to the honor of New Jersey, passed la 1903 a primary act enabling any candidate. upon his Individual merit, to secure a nomination. If that noalnatloL Is demanded or deelrad by the people. This law baa given to New Jersey a

tunlty for the full i of the people's will mixes the poesi'.AUtles of the predominance of corporation Influence or control by so called political homes. With R»e primaries In the hands of the people, with cmiupt practice acts, which Insure pure elections, wbera pub lie seotlmant is ripe to that and, with no danger threatening popular rule, with twelve years at beaafldal laws

through ths Initiation and support at the Republican party, w* submit that this party has so administered the gorernment of New Jersey ss to be worthy of public confidence and sup If continued In power, we pladgs It to the continuance of laws for tha we." of the people and la the interests of good .awl intelligent government, pledge It to the soaetmsot of measures as will raatrict undo* encroachments of corporations upon public and to the enactment at i free and untrammeled the rights at ths

Governor Peauypacker recently sum moned a placeholder In one of the departments Into his private office. When the man entered the governor was unusually affable and In a rare good humor. “Smith.” said the governor, after five minutes bad elapsed, “you are not kept very busy with your work, are you?" “Not very, governor." confided the
