Elections were held In 48 states, and while the results In a number of Instances were of unusual tMerest, It may be said that generally a peaking there were no great snrprlsee. Throughout tha south the Democratic slate and congressional tickets have been elected by the uaual meJorltle* In the weat and east the states (bat were aligned two years ago In the Democratic or Republican col1 show no material change, the Democrats making gains In some Instance* aad the Republican* In other*. The Republicans retain control of congress by a good majority. In Chicago It la estimated that tha Independence League ticket polled 40,000. but there was a Republican plurality for the state officer*. Michigan. Iowa. New Hampshire. North Dakota. Connect!cut. Minnesota, Indiana and Wisconsin have rolled up Republican pluralities, although there some falling off from the usual vote In Iowa Nebraska shows big Republlrin galna. Ohio also ahowa Republican gains over the Patti aon vote of last year. The Republican* expect a plurality of 70,000 In the atate. The conatHuUon of the new state of Oklahoma will be written by Democrats. The Indiana voted the Democratic ticket almost solidly. Oklahoma also went strongly Democratic In choosing delegates to the constitutional convention. New Mexico and Arlaonm have voted favorably on the proposition to enter the Union Jointly as a single state. Governor Hoch la re-elected In Kansas by a slightly reduced majority. '* T ' The result In Missouri was In doubt t a late hour, the DemocraU expectig to gain some of the congressional districts they ioat two year* ago. Congressman Nicholas Longworth was re-elected In CtaclanariCongrew*man J.TrT Wadsworth, for many years chairman of tha house committee on agriculture at Washingwm defeated In the S4th N*w York district. The Republicans carried Utah. Wyoming and Washington, and seem to have lost Nevada, while both parries ■e claiming Colorado.
