The recount of the ballots cast in Cape May Count*- for State Senator which began and ended last Friday, only served to give additional light upon bow ballot* are marked (lawfulto show a delivery of purchased votes, and yet not be a marked ticket, that Is with a “distinguishing" or -designated" mark thereon. The only ballot box coantedAras that of the second election district of Cape May City, which the election hoard had returned aa giving 171 for Robert E. Hand and 70 for Ewing. A* ' the count progressed. Attorney French showed 79 ballots all for Hand, each of which had the corooer'e name crossed off and the name of some per (an different) written for the office, and they were written In (our different hand writings only. Thus It showed that tear persona who handled voters for Hand had “persuaded" sev-ity-ulnc persona to vote such tickets When the board got through, there left for Judge Treachard to decide whether these 79 should be counted and 79 others which had been recounted for Hand and II for Ewing. Judge Trenchard. while he said that tb*y were suspicious, also, said they not supported by evidence (which can not be produced at m recount but only on a contest) to show a marked ticket under the Uw. and therefore, ordered them counted for Hand. Aa n matter of fact, after they were counted. Hand had lost 1C. being given 15*. and Ewing had gained 11. which reduced Hand majority 26 votes.
