In 1S71 he was licensed by the Free Chur' h of Scotland and appointed assistant to the Her. Dr. Wilson In Barclay church. Edinburgh. Dr. Watson was ordained a minister In lf>75. He was appointed I-yman Beecher lecturer at Talc university In 1HB<; and was made minister of Seftnn Park Prest.vterlan church. Liverpool. In 18S0. retaining that position until IHO-". Dr. Watson arrived In New York from England on Keh. 8 last and the following day occupied the pulpit of the Fifth Avenue Baptlct church, where be was warmly greeted and ex-prua-ted his gratification for what he termed "an extraordinary tribute to a v isltlng clergyman."
