Link Jamt Forged as Planned Man) Years Ago An Important liiik In "the obain of ill*ay * counseling ocean resorts l« end of our elute, wus completed very short time ago und le now in m constructed und tieing operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. This link reechew across Peck’s Bay, between Homer’s Point und Ocean City, the latter being built upon what was formerly known as Peck’s Beach, the founder of the resort being R*' . Ecru H. I dike, a member of the New Jor»e>' M. E- Conference. It wus early In the seventies (hut Mr. Tsike unfolded to the writer hi* plans for the founding of this romrt, and among hi* plan* was the oon--.truction of a railroad aero** tbe bay, to give tbe new resort, once it should lieoumc rwtablisbtd, rail connection with the Camden and Atlantic KaR-

road.

One of the first steps taken by Mr. l*ake w as to have sounding* taken to determine the feasibility of bridging the water* and tbe figures giving the w idth and depth of the main channel, a* obtained by survey, were given by Mr. I*akc, but I am no! aur t>eing able to quote them correctly. Mr. Imke lived to see hi* projected resort become a beautiful seaside city, and never lost faith in the final railway connection across the bay to

Homer’s Point.

Communication with the outside world by way of the West Jersey through Sea Isle City, and across the meadow* through Tuckahoe by way of 'ape May branch of the Reading, came before hi* death, but the other ia* really Mr. lake's pet railway cbeme, or Idea, delayed until July, 1UU7 for it* completion and operation. Sometime Cape May City will reap beneficial re*ull* from this latest link >f the chain. ».

The Fatal First Inning In the first inning of Haturday’s game Cape May kart, and lost hard, . That is it was hard for Ibe rootof Cape May, and mighty easy for the young men from St. Luke's. The local team put Harlan, captain-elec! of the Princeton leam,in to pitch. 8l. Luke smashed four runs out in this inning, although a costly error of Doak'sattbe home plate contributed to the result he dropping an easy throw from third. Lack of team work, lack of understanding each other, lack of baseball , and that explains the situ*lion. It to not worth while beginning to play ball after tbe game to lost. Only a miracle could have saved the day after that fatal first chapter of blunadded to tbe batting freak of the visitor* and aceommodaUng tossing of the ball by Harlan.
