PRAISES PHILADELPHIA J. Wallace Hallowell Remember*

While Abroad

Mr. and Mrs. John Wallace Hallowell. who have passed the summer in Kiirope, sailed last Friday for America ami * hen they arrive home w lo Uieir cottage at Ocean streel lumbia avenue. They passed several day* in Paris before preparing to taki the -learner for home. The Kuropean edition of Ihe New York Herald, published in Paris, and daled August 13th, in a communication from Aix-I-«*-Bains of August 10th contains an account o^Mr. and Mr*. Hal!o»ell's trip. They were then staying at the Hotel Haroascon, and befort reaching there had visited London Paris, Carlsbad, Vienna, Berlin, Weis-j luuifti and Lucerne. The same paper contains the remarks of Mr. Hallowell upon Philadelphia real estate. "The concentration of Pennsylvania Railroad interests in Uie neighborhood of Broad and Chestnut street* ha* meant a great deal for real estate owners in that neighborhood, and now we expect lo get the Stock Kxchange moved to that locality. Recent sales of ground have been at the rate of fcSffl a square foot, and the new building of the Uirmrd Trust Company represents an outlay for land and building of seven million dollars. -Philadelphia is growing very rapidly. especially the manufacturing interests. Indeed, within the last three or four years it has grown faster than any city in the United Stales, except New York. This is all a healthy growth, too. and lias not been so much adcclcd by the condiUon of the stuck market as in some other cities. ••Tlie recent arrangement with the streel railway companies, by which at the end of fifty years all their lines to become the property of the city, the latter guaranteeing the railways’ iUes and paying the cost of new construction in Ihe meanwhile, has relieved us from any unsettleroent ovei ■loexUons of municipal ownership. Credit for this is largely due to George H. Earle, w ho reorganUed so successfully the Real Estate Trust Company, and who is one of the directors of the Rapid Transit Company.”

master. Lucien O. Carpenter, was a grand success in every particular. The large dining room was used ami never presented a more bcaullful sight when the hundreds of children entered in the grand triumphal march, led by Miss Coia Shield* and Master Thomas Miller. They turned in and out in difficult evolutions, the scene reminding one of fairyland as their tiny feet kept time to the sweet strains of the excellent orchestra specially engaged from Philadelphia for this occasion. Congratulations are doe Miss R. Hal pin for her untiring efforts in reviving the gaycty of good old Congress
