COUNTY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES
Those Who are Expected to Be Elected
GOOD MEN NAMED SlilIf. Vaniuman. Corson and Lakr Have Long Lead—Millet For Mayor
SIX YEARS AS TAX COLLECTOR
The ramlulalf* on the Republican county ticket have completed their can 1 au> of the county and are well un-died of a victory for the « ticket by a very large majority
Tueaday-
Anemblyman CocaviUe E. SUIle feel* that be aill be returned to the Ie«i«lature by a majority equal to, that which he.received but year, and believe* that hU record at Trenton aid him in his vote getting^ He inai»U that he haa been eunacten iou» in hi« duties and that hi* vole* in various various matters have been in accordance with pledges made before the election of last year. He also claims his election by rwaaon of the fact that hr has served one term, and that it ts always customary in this county to give at least two terms to a memtier of the UgMaiure. It is hinted that if be Is chOHen this time he w ill not be a candidate another year, hut will step aside for aome other Republican, be-
lieving in rotation of office.
Captain Charles I*- Vannaman, the candidate for surrogate, will get a larve vote on election day by reanon of his popularity throughout die county. He haa a boat of Democratic friend* who will support him, throw ing away partisanship In order that a man eminently qualitled may hold the office of surrogate. This is a rather important office, and one which requires correct records because of the legal aspect of the matter which are taken up in the office. Mr. Vannaman is well know throughout the country as an upright citizen and one whose reeort as a pub-
lie official is of the best.
Captain Robert R. Corson, of L’ppcr Township, expects to be elected sheriff on Tuesday with a good majority. He has show n his illness for office by his service* in the Board of Freeholders, and in his position as Oyter Commissi tier, which he neld for a number of years previous to the abolishing of this office by the State Legislali He is prominent in the affairs of his township, and all who know him speak of him in the highest terms. One of the most important offices be filled this election is that of asscsAo It requires a man of ability, impartial and honest. The present incumbent, Gilbert C. Hughes, haa proven himaelf all this. He is a candidate for reelection and should have the support of all who have the welfare of the city
at heart.
Mayor Thomas VV. Millet is making an active canvass and expects to be re-elected by e good majority next Tuesday. He has served the city faithfully for four forms and has a large number of friends who are working voluntarily for him. Dr. Wilson A. Lake has heretofore served as coroner of the county, and for that reason will no doubt receive a very large and flalfodng vole on Tues-
day.

FIRE AT HOLLY BEACH
A mysterious mldnigtrt fire which bid fair to be a conflagration of considerable proportions was effectively headed off by the quick and heady work of the Holly Beach Volunteer Firemen capably assisted by the Wjldwood end Angleaea brigades, between 12 and 1 o'clock Sunday morning. Aside from the firs, which destroyed three hems, killed three valuable hor»ea and dsmagad several homes near by. The call proved the efficiency of the newly instituted Uamewell fire alarm system, with which the nine call boxes in Holly Beach are automatically attached to the powerful bull whistle on the plant of the Five Mile Reach Kiectrlc Company, and the general feeling is that the system, which was installed at aonriderabla coal, has simply paid for itself on the
