I -ait week wa* one (rand (ala day in Philadelphia. The presence of the Japaneae Embaaiy excited the nioal intense inlereat in the ainas of nianj, and with that number, scarcely anything else could be beard of. They arrired on Saturday, the 9lh, from Baltimore, and left for New York on Saturday the 16th. Almost innumerable crowds met them at the depot, on their arriral; and all along the route to their hotel, the streets were crowded and crammed, so that the' grand cortege could scarcely thread iu way. They took np their quarters at the “Continental," and from morn till late in the evening. Chestnut street, in the vicinity of that hotel, was crowded with an ea^-er multitude, to catch a glimpse of the singular, brownfaced, and sharen-heojled Princes or even their most menial vassal*, (for few could tell the difference.) We happened to spend several days in that city, daring their stay, and bad a view of “lions’’ several times, in the coarse of their peregrinations, as well as at their hotel, and though they were a sight worth looking at, yet we could not see why a multitude should stand gaping at them, or at the windows of their rooms, hoping to see them, daring the livelong day, and for days in succession. During the stay of tba Embassy, they ware shown the rarious eights, both of a public and privet* character, and expresaed great interest in what they saw. On Friday evening, they were treated with the view of a grand torchlight procession, got up by the various fire companies. And «uch a procession ! and such a crowd ! Pleasures parsed on in this manner until half-past eleven o'clock, when a bell was sonnd?d,and they all assembled en mosse, for the purpose of singing another hymn, entitled, “Welcome to onr Festival,” and a prayer was alter, ward made, and notice given that dinner would be prepared and served between the boars of 12 and 1 o'clock.
