her. There was no doubt some troth in This, but, nevertheless, the Great Eastern, with her present machinery can never be fa*t. After some delay we weso transfered to a small steamer, and stepped upon the wharf at a ci«orter past eleven o’clock, perfectly satisfied with our trip ; that is. satisBed that nn excursion cn the "Great Kastern ” in the manner in which this one managed, was a humbug; and so said all whom we heard speak of it from sad experience. and so says tho j ms generally. We stated last wc:k, that the excursion from New York consisted of fifteen iton4r«*d persons ; bol, instead of this, there aere more than two thousand And among this number, tho greatest dissatisfaction prevailed. An indignation meeting was held on board Ihe^shjp, before her or. rttal at the Copes, and resolution* of the greatest dissatisfaction adopted; and so great was the discatisfactinn, that u Urge unmber would not retnrn in her. bnt sold their tickets at any price, or gave theml av»y liut, to bulaueo this, a Targe unn - her—between two and three l.undrciIM from the excursion on the steamer Jne. hundred.
Tub Bntr.—The Great Eastern Is doubtedly skwi'II huilt vessel, being, in general, a good mo lei, very strong, and moves through the water with very little trembling or rolling. Her internal arrangement is not what might bo expected. She badly cut tip into saloons and state-room, and the latter especially, are hut poorly ventilated. The enginst and machinery are certainly of a superior order ; and well wmth a visit to the ship to behold, v in motion; and as we stood upon the deck, upd looked down into tho engine room, and wilnessod the revolutions of those jinuderous cranks, wo were reminded of tho Tabnlcnf. lever of Archimidrs. ai which he proposed, if ho could hut have place to rest his fulcrum upon, to over turn
the world.'
The Baviso.—0 yep..the eating, that’ the point. When men go on a pleasure excursion, and pay len dtllars per day for the privilege of walking on a plank of a vessel. and aru willing to paywell for their t-a-ting, drinking nnd sleeping, they dislike starvation. Such tpltndid tvittry wont do. The eating consisted of cold meats, bread and batter, Ac.] Ac., with a cup of tea coffee, provided y£i could get it; but there was the rub. Wo went to tho dining saloons three times for tapper before we could gel a bile, and when w,- go*, it, it consisted of cold beef, broad and butter, (strong butter ut that) and a gluts of water. No tea nor coffi-e to bo had. Our breakfast was varied to a plate of cold ham, bread aud butter as aforesaid, and a glass of milk, (sour) for which we bad to pay extra. Bnt then, we cat on tho GREAT EASTERN, and of course, it must be aplendid ; and we satisfied ourselves with the idea that opr lot was but the lot of hundreds of others. M isery loves company.
