It k probable tbat no one subject is more interesting JO tbe mass of people in onr county, at tbe present time, than the one we have nboro named. Kvery person thalstua living to earn, is anxious to know what the prospects are of the ••farmer's harvest" throughout the country.— From a knowledge of this, an estimate i* drawn by the farmer of what his crops are worth, while the mechanic begins to calculate tbe cost of hit provisions for the ensnirg year, and in some places U is even a "guide star" to the speculator, that he msy know wbat price to pay for merchandize and bow laryw a slock to bargain for. Buch are facta; and as it is obligatory on tbe local press t o advance the interests of home, we afiall give on account of t be yields of agriculture, as far ts beard from. Many would be surprised if we should esy, tbet in this county more than on average growth of crops waa liVeiy to be harvested this full. If tbia were so, it would give us unbounded pleasure to annouco it: Bnt nu all-wise I’rovidence has not seen fit to over-run our store houses with tba richest productions of the soil this season. Tbe great drontb which prevailed during the past six weeks, is more or less felt in every stale and territory of the-Union. We have made many inquiries in regard to tbe wheat and oat crop in this county, and the general opinion seems to exist, that rill exceed former yesrt, bat the is below an average yield. The prediction has been given that corn would be entirely burned up This, indeed, is a

W That tlio" farmers of Cape Mav can raise good beef, if they will, la placed beyond a doubt. It is true that we have but little of the prime, bul it is not for want of facilities for raising it. Decidedly tbe best beef that we have had the pleasure of proving this summer, was from a heifer fattened by Mr. leaao Strain, jr.. of tho Middle Township. On going to tbe market-house of the Messrs. Reseman, a few mornings siece, we found some very fine sirloin steaks in waiting (or oi. The heifer weighed about five hundred pounds ; was very fat, and the steaks as tender as a spring chicken. Beth the butchers, and tho farmer who raised it, deaerve credit for furnishing the public with so excefient an article.— Our thanks to those concerned for tbe present. Don’t fear that we shall feel insulted at tseb things.
