Pan.v eku-uia, Sept. 17, 181 / Mr. I.Kscn■.—Dear Sir.’—I was much pleased with your leading editorial, week's issue. From what 1 taw and heard, while on a visit to Capo Island loti sum mer, I should suppose, that the season oros “rather more than an average compared' with the seasons of 1860-1-2-3 and ’&4, it will hardly whine. 1 caa call to mind, a summer, when the Island was overrun. andyou had to lodge many guests with the farmers at Cold Spring. Hare too had any such seasons, lalely 7 I pnu*e for an answer. Do you wish to have those good old dayi come again t 1 imagine your

Atlantic City is unquestionably a rival of Cape Island, and unless your people arouse from their slumbers, and look to their best interests, that place, which has been built up as if by magic, will, ere long, catch the Diadem, now possessed by Cape Island, and publish tho tidings to the uttermost part of America; winning their heretofore enemies, which would cause you all a loss';
truly lamentable.
The weather In the city was quite cool nil last week ; but it seems much pleasanter than the week previous. Oar hotels are full; unusually so. The arrivals at the Continental & Girard Hotels number from 3 to 5'hundred daily. It was feared that the Continental would never do a paying business ; but those fears have long since been'silenced. Philadelphia can support another hotel of tho same sort. ^ The eighth annual session of the American Pomological Society; wa* iu session the greater part of last week in the Assembly bailding, corner of Tenth & Chestnut streets. Fruit growers from all sections oi the country were in attendance with specimens of their apple, peach, par, grain-, blackberry, quince, and peor crops. Tno dlffvreni luoies, cases. ;.Ac., were laden with tho most duticious productions. New Jersey presented the finest pours and quinces, and in fact all her frnita were highly spoken of. Speeches were delivered, in a separate room, relating to the benefit derived from such a society. The place designated for the holding of the
next meeting is Boston.
Political meetings, torch-light proces•Ions, party parados, and all other party demonstrations, are the order of tho day and nights. Lost Tuesday was a memorable day for tho Republican party. Chadd s Ford on the site of the Brandywine battle field, was the place designated for a great gathering. TbousanJs ef voters from Philadelphia and the su rounding conntry flocked to the place, whore they were addreseed during the day, by many •miaent speakers among whom was the Hon. John Sherman. It was estimated that forty thousand people wore on the
ground during the dsy.
Last Friduy evening tie Bell & Everett party, attempted to hold a ratification meeting ap town j but it was broken op by a nnmbor of lawless rowdies. The police arrested some of the ringleaders, and sei.. them to the “lock up.' On Saturday night the Douglas party mol at Concert Hall and
