Our Court*.

Our county court* were in eewion la»t week, commencing on Tuetiday and closing on Thursday, Judge Clawson presiding. Tbe attendance on tbe first day was very large, occasioned in a great measure, no donbt, by the probability that a murder case would be tried—tbe case of Abram Garrison for tbe mnrder of his wife—Maty Garrison—near Townsend's Inlet,

Middle Township, on the 6th inst.

The Grand Jury finished their business on the flret day of the term. Bodirg only two bills of indictment, as follows: Against Abram Garrison, for manslaughter, in killing his wife, as above stated: and against >. Rebecca Hildreth for poisoning her

hnsband, with intent to kill.

While the Grand Jury were oat the coart was engaged in a soil of the Cape May Tornpike Company p*. Jacob Haod, on a plea of debt. Verdict, in favor of the company. Keasbey for the Company; the defendent managing his own defence. There was another case the nature of which we did not folly learn, not being in courtsal tbe time of trial, between Jose;.It Hall and Lemuel Learning, both of the Lower Township, in which judgement was

rendered in favor of Mr. Hall.

The Murder Case.—On Wednesday the first case before the court was the Stale ri. Abram Garrison, on an indictment for Mandaugkter, as above. Woodbull, for the State, and Keasby for tbe defendant. The circumstances of this case, as elicited from the evidesce, are, ia brief, os fol

lows:

On the afternoon of the 6ih hist., one witness saw Garrison, at or near his house. Garrison had boen cleaning blood oat of the house: told witness that bis wife had miscarried, which was the cause of the blood. (This was all fabrication.) Deceased was lying on the floor in the house, ilh pools nl blood about her; was still living. The father and sister of tho deceased was sent for, by a child of the do fondant and deceased, who staled that the fither (the defendant) had beaten, stamped Mid kicked tbe mo Imr (the deceased.) The fulber and sister of the deceased went to the hoo<«; found thu deceased in the condition above slated. Deceased told her sbter that Abram (ihe defendant) had kicked, beaten and stamped her: said that aha j ■heuld dio. She was pnl upon a bed, wbero s.e died somulime during the night. While l^ing there, the hu-baid was requested to go tor a physician. He left the house, was gone several boure, but returned without u physician. This circumstance with the fabrication above slated, weighed considerably against tbe accused The main evidence was tbe dying declaration of .the deceased, corroborated* at least iu part, by the testimony of the physicians who conducted the poti-morlem examination.. Doctors Beasley, Wiley and Young, the physicians who conducted ihe examination, were severally sworn ; their evidence agreeing that very little external mark of vielence was visible, and the internal injury was confined to one place, apparently caused by heavy kicks From this the flow of b!»od seemed to proceed, which caused the death of tho deceased. .The jury retamed a verdict of gnilty, and the prisoner was seoteueed to nine yean in the Stale

Priaon.

The last case was—The State e». Rebec, ca Hildreth, on tbe sedtetment as above. Verdict—Aa.'sniffy. Wpodhnll and Nixon for the Stale, and Halstead and Keaabey for the defendant. An appeal of John Dongberty, in Ihe ca e of the West Jersey Central Railroad against the said Dougherty, triad sometime since before a jury at Cape Island, was moved. The circamslanoes are, that the said Doagherty, who was once President of tbe said Company, on being deetoi out of aid office, did not deliver np certain books he., belonging to said company, for the re cov»f££f Which, tha Company toed said DoRghert., which was tried oefora a jury as above stated, and a verdict rendered in favor of Ihe Cempany, from which decission Dongberty appealed.* The appeal -dismissed.
