Cape Island Sunday School ■ I'm ion. The sixth qnarterly meeting of this sstocistioo woe held In the First Bap- . list Church o? this city on Sandny aflost, 14th Inst. Precisely at I half after Iwa e 'clock, the Caioa woe | died to order by Ree. Joseph W. ; Hobbsrd, oae of the \ ion presidents —the President, Rev. A. Atwood, hnving been appointed to a distant charge I eince last meetiog — and the exercises - opened with the eonl-stirring hymn, "Shell we sing in H*ar*o,n which wst j enthusiastically tnng by ihe-tntire asAfter prayer by Rev. Edwin Hewitt, pestor of the M. E. Church, and reading of the minutes of preeediog meeting, the besutifal hymn, "Tbe Sweetest Name" was exceedingly well rendered, having a very pleating effect. The first business in ordsr was tbe bearing repirts from the superintendents. Mr. Joseph S. Leach, of tbe Baptist school, stated that thoagh be lied nothing of importance, specially relating to hit chsrgt, to report, be - was grastly rejoiced ia having tbe pri1 vilege end opportunity to ennoonce to the association, that aisce tba gracious work of rarity) bad begun in thecborcb hut a few weeks age, ont of thirty con--, mrsions, tweety were members of the j Sabbath School — two teachers and eighteen scholars. This, he considered tbe most interesting item that had ! transpired In tbe achool since its or- j geslxation, and alongside ef which all ; others sbonld assume a secondary chs- i rscter. Tbe school has lost see of its members, by dsath, since last qnarterly ' meeting. Mr. Joseph Q. Williams, soptrin- ! lendeat of the Presbyteriaa school, gave a very encoaragiog report of the yonth and children constituting his charge. Tbe loterest, attendanee and attention on therpart of the scholars end officers, particolarly noticeable in tbe yonng ladies' Bible class, have considerably increased daring the past qoarter, so that tba school presents s most healthful condition. One of tbe tender brancbee of tbe school, be remarked, bad been transplanted to another and better world within the last thrss months. Mr. George W. Smith, of tba M. E. school, reported that no loefetse or decrease ia the namber of scholars bad occnrred sine* bin last report. Among other items of interest which were connected with his school, was ths mnnimissionary collection taken np i within tbe past Conference year, I amounting in nil to $106. Prsysr by Rev. J. C. Hyde wan followed by siogisg "Walk in tbt Light." Excellent and interesting addresses were then delivered by Rev. E. Hew•itt; Rev. Mr. Mnnll Ad Rev. J. C. Hyde, followed by einging tbat favorite hymn, "Children In Henvnn." Tho presiding offiesr having stated that tbe office of President had ^Ccome vacant by removal of Mr. Atwood, he desired that tbe aaiocietloa take action on it. Accordingly Rev. E. Hewitt ;ng nominated, and immediately elccttd to supply tka vacancy. After appointing tbe M. E. Church as tbe piece for holding the -next quarterly meeting of the Uolon, and singing "Saviour, like s Shepherd lead us," the exercisas of the afternoon were concluded by pronouncing of the benediatioa. It la proper to add tbat tbe exarclses were of the greatest Interest, the sacred edifice, on tbe occasion, being crowded to Its almost capacity.— tbe excellent arrangements ef Mr. J S. Leach, however, aecommodatiao, as far as praetieabla, was prered for all, and beyond a slight oatside pressure, iHVre wss no other feelmanifested hot thst of rtgrel when the hoar of adjoarnmeat bed arrived.
