Last eveuiag truu to iu old reputation the Columbia shone resplendent with the beauty .wealth and Ctshion s of Philadelphia and Baltimore, to greet I; one who well deterred it. The Columbia again illustrated itaelf in the comi- plinientary hop extended to Ueneral a Meade. Did we any hop t Xo. It was ; an ovation to onr brorile townsman. ■ To the nation Ceoboe (iottoox Mkadp. The Phllodelphian who would not honor him has a soul . deod to all patriotism Mr. Bolton and the guests of the Columbia desired to give him some token of tho appreciation in which ho was held, and therclbru when he entered tho room there Was a . deep, hcart-Rdt welcome, which such a gentleman as General Meade can appreciate The hall was handsomely I decorated, and on the wall opposite the There was indeed no need of it, for every heart beat a welcome, and the; brave General seemed to feel It. After j the usual promenade march the act ; was funned for the Lancers as follows : , General Meade and the Countess j Leonoti, wlth Sussex D. Davis and Mrs j Emily Schattmbcrg upon the lead. General Grubb and Miss Moore, and Mr. James Smith and Mrs. Dr. Gctchel! upon the side. The Lcon.iti was dressed in j white tulle, trimmed with pink ; Alios iu wldte tarlctan trimmed with blue and pink wreath, looking as beautiful as ever. Miss Moore wore white tarleton and pink roses in her hair. Airs. Getehell, black moire antique. The next set was formed hy Mark Etting and Mrs. General Grubb, and Colonel Panuworth and Miss VKarali Meade in the lead, with E. J Kiting and Miss Mnrgrct Meade, and Mr. George B. Kestcr and Miss Henrietta Meade on the side. Mrs. Grubb wore a white striped chambra, pink and white ; Miss Sarah .Meade white tarleton, pink roses her hair. Atiss Margaret Meade white tulle dn-ss, and Miss Henrietta Meade white French muslin. • All the were liberally provided with boquets. The Hop was really an ovation to General Meade. One could not turn round for tho crowd. It was not only a success - it was too much of a success. Among the throng it was to pick one's way, or see any particular face or dress among the myriads that passed In review. There were some, however, who could not be overlooked, as tlioy seemed to shine out resplendent amid thin revolving gakixry of beauty.
