II. KiawE. AWES All. ewsnons TO THOU AT j ( aUIBTHH ?L LESSON 12- MARCH 2L-BSVIKW. OoprrtrbU 1M8. by 8. P. I. Os. . MhMbStomiVmair REVIEW. I am taking advantage of tbe review to write the introduction to these leason notes and to aftswer a few questions. During the quarter we have been busy getting acquainted and the class h^ppfein growing into ita millions of members! We are now in good shape to get on and I hope by future lessons many of you may be led Into the kingdom. For this is what these lessons are all about after all. THE IRON ROSE BlfeLE CLASS. No, this is not an imaginary class, conjured op as an excuse for preaching. It is a ver7 real^body o£flesh and blood which has met with me for sixteen years every Sundajr morning' at 9 30 o'clock. There have always been about one hundred or us, all the room will hold. All are men. All kinds and conditions of men. We have had ana conaiuons oi men. ire nave hid -
- millionaires and; we have had rag J pickers. Business men. professional t men, art-Sana, clerks, Uborers, collage boys. We meet together and discuss the^things of life in the very words of 1 these notes. In fact these notes are 1 virtually tbe minutes >of this class. 1 They are real things and |that is why I they touch real life bo closely. Since 1 I you are now a member of the Iron 1 Rose Class don^Ail to stop in and 1 see us when you come this way, for 1 you belong 1 • 1 WHY CALL IT.lRON ROSE? < There is every thing in a name. This 1 is a good one. Iron is the noblest of 1 tbe metals. The rose is the loveliest of 1 flowers. The fruit of the rose is the 1 apple. An apple tree in blossom is a : great rose bush in full bloom. And what is more beautiful and glorious ! What fruit more useful than the apple, or more delicious ! The apple never 1 fails us. It is always with ue from : year's end to year's end. Just like the I love of God. Most lovely of flowers, : most us-ful of metals, most lasting'of fruits. What better name pray you? Our class color is Brown, the color of iron at. rest. The color of the field when the farmej* has driven his iron share through it. The color that gives promise of the full barn, the busy railroad, the rich commerce and our coun- , try's prosperity. There is another reason why we call it the Iron Rose Bible Class which. I will tell you about some other time. There is a story connected with it and I have not room for it today. JBut Jit is a pretty good name isn't it? It is becoming famous M and you will be glad to know you were
among the first to use it, that the , original Iron R»3e was a bible class and you were in it. TO SUNDAY SCHOOL FOLKS. If you go to Sunday school as a scholar you can have lots of fun |with your half prepared teacher by tak ing your Bible and going over these notes and references and getting up on the lesson. The first day you try it you will find a Jgreatly surprised teacher, and the Jnext Sunday you will find a greatly improved one. T he third Sunday with both scholars and teacher up on the^esson youjwill find^the oldjclass a n«w one. The teaching 'period will be all too short when the Iron Rose is in full bloom. ^ If you are a teacher you will find these notes among the best helps you have ever had. They are intended to get you ready for your class in thirty minutes I contend every adult life has in it rich Sunday school teachiog material. You will note that nearly all my illustrations'are out of" my own life; and are very homely. Pains are taken to make them so. I never go to Greece or Rome or far afield. This is a hint for you. My illustrations can haTdly be used by you. My clothes fit me, they may not fit you. But they me, uiey may not nt. you. dud uiey
will suggest similar thingB in your own life. They are as cups of water poured into a pump to make it gc. I usually give six cups full. If one don't start you some of the other five may. j TO THE OTHER FELLOWS. Not much religion about you, is " there'; That is why you are reading * I these notes. They are intended for ' you. I used to be one of your kind of 1 fellows, myeelf. I know how you think, and that is why I know sc well 1 how to talk to you, and how to get ' right next to you every once in a 1 while. You keep right with rr.e from week to week and we will arrive somewhere presently. Yon are not as ir1 religious as 70U let on. Your mouth is the worst part of you— and you don't 1 believe half wnat you bluster about 1 religion. I want you to find tbe refer1 ences. It will be better after you get ' onto it Hunt up that old Bible your mother gave you. You promised her ■ you would use it I will help you keep | your promise. You will be surprised 1 how expert you will become in a little while. You -will be interested in not-

It is the solution of the problem, the labor problem, the problem, tbe divorce problem and every other problem. Is anytldng making you unhappy? Go out and do something kind to somebody and your unhappinees will take wings and fly like a scared crow. Is there 1 frictien anywhere in your life? Pour i* ; little of the sweet oil of kindnese - and ev-rything will hum. Or, betterstill, mount pdur life with ball' beir*. . ings of little kindnesses and the fric* I tion will never develop. And it costs absolutely nothing to think the kind thought, say r the k ind word and do the kind act, j Pray, then, why not? ' The healthy old man wears his gray ' hairs like a silver crown. What if ha 1 be three score and ten if there is still s fire in his eye, firmness in his step, command in hi voice and wisdom in his counsel? He commends love and - reverence.
