e GOVERNOR ANXIOUS FOE e OCEAN BOULEVARD Governor Fort in an aililiaai before ^ the State Highway Commiasioo reeents ly, declared that h« was anxious to r complete during his administration the ° ocean boulevard and the connecting <. links between tbe coanty .eats. , The commisaion was crested by aet of tbe last Legislature to '.boikJ the ocean boulevard. It has no approprit- ■ tioc, and only the four counties bordering on tbe coast hare been active in f getting roads built, and tboae roads f only under the old set which allows J tbefStatc Road Commissioner to contribute one- third of tbe of a 1 road, the coanty paying the balance. - The Governor was told that the ex- : pense of $500,000 connecting Somen' t Point had scared out Atlantic County, ■ and then the Governor directed the enI gioeer of tbe commission to prepare a list of roads connecting the oounty j seats and also to give an estimate on the expense for completing tbe ocean ■ boulevard. It is understood that ha will ask tbe Legislature for money to build the roads. STATE INLAND WATERWAY The work of dredging the State In- ; land Waterway will shortly be re1 sumed, and of the fifty tboaBand dollars ' made available by the last legislature, about eighteen thousand dollars will be expended Jin completing the inside channel north of Rio Grande, bridge, ' Holly Beach. This sum will carry the work through to Stone Harbor. It is proposed to use the balance of the ' available money in working north of | Atlantic City, through a territory that is >ut sparsely populated, witbl but a few scattering resorts, where 1 tbe work will cover but a few miles, oh account of tbe shallowness of the j water courses to be dredged. Thoua- j i anda of residents, both permanent and | visiting, who populate the ooaat resorts ' south of Atlantic Oity, believe that it . would be far better to complete the • waterway from Oape May to Atlantic [ Oity.— Five Mile Beach Sun. | The bumori8t on tbe staff of the Newark Evening News, occasionally breaks into tbe eeitorial columns. He did so recently and perpetrated this : "Perhaps it will be just as well for the Progressives to defer the opening of their campaign for next year until after the adjournment of tbe Legislature. Then they may have something ■ to talk about concerning matters on > which tne "regulars" were gagged." The " Progressives" are thosi form- ' erly Known as "New Ideaists," but the latter title has become such a joke that it has been abandoned and "Progressives" ia now the label. The humor in the above quotation consists in the intimation that the "Progrcs gives" will not talk until they have something to talk about! SHERIFF'S SAFE.
