There ia a growing sentiment in this ' country in favor of medicines of known composition. It Is but natural that one should have some interest in the com position of that which be or she is expected to swallow, whether it be food, drink or medicine. Recognizing this growing dispusition the part of the public, and satisfied that the fullest publicity can only add the well earned reputation of his medicines. Dr. R. V. Pierce, of Buffalo, |N. Y., has "taken time by tbe forelock." as it were, and is publishing broadcast a list of all the ingredients entering into bis medicines, "Golden Discover*" the popular liver invigorator, stomach tonic, blood puriand heart regulator ; also of bisFavorite Prescription" for weak, over worked, broken-down, nervous and invalid women. This bold and out-spoken movement the part of Dr. Pierce, has by showexactly what his well known medicines Are composed of, completely dis armed all harping critics who nave unjus ly attacked them. A little pamphlet has been compiled, the standard medical authorities of all the several schools of practice, showing tbe strongest endorsements by leading medical writers of the sever I j ingredients which en er into Dr | Pierce's medicines. Memory' Veree% 7, 8— Golden Text, Matt, vii, 12— Commentary Prepared by Rev. D. M. Stearns. When any truth is brought borne to us by tbe -Spirit bow prone we are to ask; Does any one do it? What about such a one wbo makes a great profession of having no anxious care? Do you know if tbey really practice It at home? Do you think that the preach- ! er himself lives that way? So It goes, ! and instead of seeing Jesus only we 1 ure prone to see everybody but Jesua. ! Hence the admonition of our lesson. I "Judge not that ye be not judged," or, j as it is elsewhere, "Let us not thereJ fore judge one another any more" ! (Rom. xiv. J 3 1. Because, as in the context all believers shall stand before the Judgment seat of Christ and every - one of us shall give account of hlm1 self to God. We are so peculiar that It Is generally easier to see the mote j In another's eye than the beam that Is In our own eye, whereas if we ourselves were right with Clod we would ! have only love for all others, and, be- ■ lng very conscious of our own Infirmi Itjes. we would have only prayerful ' compassion tor those of others. Christ r for us In our stead on the cross obtained for us eternal redemption; r Christ for us In heaven at the right hand of tbe Father makes victory over sin bur privilege, but because we do not know as wc should the power of Christ In us by His Spirit we are more 1 often stumbling blocks than samples of what tbe life of Christ really ia Yet i the one thing we are here for Is so to live that the world may know and , believe that Jesus Uvea In 'our last year's studies In the Acts , of the Aposiles some of us were much , Impressed by tbe words "Jesus shewed Himself alive" In connection with , those other resurrection words. "Jesus shewed Himself (Acts 1, 3; John xxi/ 1, 14). His own testimony was that He came not to condemn, but to save. , To one sinner He said. "Neither do 1 condemn thee; go and sin no more." . To -another.- "Thy sins are forgiven? (John 111. 17; vili. 11; Luke vlL 48). ,H> . did condemn the self righteous, fault 1 finding, hypocritical Pharisees, but He ■ never had even a seemingly harsh word for tbe penitent sinners or for any truly desirous to be His disciples. Such love as His is heavenly; all else i is from tbe pit. In us It Is either ,(.ffMrtatorse!f. - • ! The Spirit through Peter speaks of , those wbo knew the way of rigbteousness. but did not walk therein, though ■ professing to do so. as dogs and swine (II Pet. 111. 21. 22i. See also Prov. xxvl, 11, 12. If one cannot speak even [ to many nmoug the redeemed of the deep things of got (see I Cor. Ill, 1, 2; ; Heb. v. 12.* 13), how much less should we think of talking spiritual things to i natural people to whom tbey are only foolishness. Such are spoken of finally as being "without." having no right to the tree of life (Rev. xxll, 14. 15), btk If those who are "in Christ" would walk honestly toward them that are without, without Christ and without i God (I Thess. iv, 12; Epb. 11, 12). who can tell how many who are now "without" might become "within" by"' Hlv grace. This Ufe which will comtucnd -Christ . to others can only be by the Spirit of God, by n wisdom which is not of this world, but in verse 11. uluug with Luke xi. 13. we learu that God is more willing to give us His Spirit, the full- ! ness of His Spirit, than parents are to give good things to their children. In Jas. i. f>. a we learn that this wisdom ! Is to be bad for .the asking, but it must I be au asking Id faith and. according I to Jas. iv. 3. with nothing of self seekj ing. but wholly for the glory of God. 'that tbe life of Jesus may be made | manifest. Tbe asking, seeking, knockI ing. wtth that end in view will surely i find an abundant response. We must 1 remember that asking so as to receive means that we are abiding, keeping ; His commandments and doiug the j things that are pleasing in His sight I (John xv. 7; I John ill, 22i. The tfeek- | ing that finds is explained in Jer. xxix. j 13. "Ye shall seek Me' and find Mt» j when ye search for Me with (ill your j heart." As to knocking, consider Rev. I UL 20. and Luke xll, 30. and tremble at | the possibility of our keeping. Him knocking at our door when l|e so lougs to take full possession of us and lavish j upon us the wealth of His love. Too | many are like tbe elder brother, nn- | happy and blaming the father for It. when all the time the father is saying. "All that I bare is thine;" "All thing* arc yours." In reference to tbe last verse (12i. which is also the golden text, note^lhat it is, like all tbe rest, n message for believers or those wbo profess to be such that tbey may prove tbe reality of tbeir faith. For nusaved people 1° take this verse and call It their religion ia simply a g- lng about to establish their own riguteousncM without submitting themselves to tbe righteousness of God (Rom. x. Si. We must be righteous before we can do righteously, but. having believed tbe to»e of God to us and received tbe Lord Jeaua Christ as our Saviour, than It becomes us to maaifeat Christ by lortBg our neighbor as ouraatvaa (Lav. xtx. 18; Gal. vl. 14).
