He was represented by Attorney Wiliam 8. Garrison. ; "After Champion had pleaded guilty Prosecutor Scovel, addressing the ; court, said: "Your Honor, in view of . the fact that the defendant has pleaded guilty. I do not desire now to move for sentence. I think it right that he ought to be given an opportunity to adjust his business affairs and the right to make an effort for restitution. The State also desires to ascertain as to whether or not other persons are Involved in this transaction and therefore I will ask that sentence be deferred. The Court acquiesced and Champion was then taken back to Jail. Mayor Cresse and a number of other officials of Ocean City, several officials of the Security Trust Company of this city and officials of the Vineland Bank, where Champion also had transactions were present in court •■■y'1 "While Champion and tho court officials were awaiting the arrival of Attorney Garrison, Attorney Leveritt New comb, of the Vineland National Bank, advanced to wbete Mr. Champion was seated, evidently to tiave a talk with him. but Judge Joline declined "to allow them to converse together. Proaecutor Scovel atated that' sentence would not be imposed for at least three weeks. This time is given him in order to let the defendant arrange bis business affairs. The note which Champion admits forging is not Cue until .April 27 and there ia a possibility that it will be taken care of by that time. Champion sinoe his incarceration has been visited by bis wife and daughter and some friends, including Dr. S. Hann, Secretary of the Law and Order League. League.
