AND REGULATING THE BUSINESS LICENSED. t Section 1 ; Be it ordained and enacted the inhabitants of the Uity of Oape May, in City Council assembled, and it ia hereby enacted by tbe authority of tbe Bame, that no person shall en- b in or carry on, manage or conduct any business, profession, trade or call- fe ing in the City of Oape May, nor aid assist as employee, clerk or other- t | wise in carrying on any such business, I profession, trade or calling, or in using fi I any wagon, vehicle, stand, store or other place or thing for which a li- C cense is required by tbe terms of tbis £ ordinance, unless a license as herein provided for, shall have been first ob- : tained therefor. i Applications for licenses shall be • j made to tbe Mercantile Appraiser of i tbe City of Cape May, and no license I 1 shall be granted until payment for the < ' same shall have been made. And be it further ordained and enacted, that all persons owning express wagons, huckster wagons, carts, hacks or other vehicles for the transportation of passengers, baggage, merchandise or goods and chattels of kind, shall be assigned and furnwith a nuiilber by the mercantile appraiser for each of the said vehicles " licensed as aforesaid, which number £ shall be set opposite of the names of q tbe owner of each of the said vehicles j so' licensed, in a book of licenses to be by the said Mercantile Appraiser ; I said number so assigned shall be se- 1 curely fastened by nails, screws or I rivets in plain view, on each of tbe , said vehicles so licensed. Such numand fastenings used to secure it, shall at no time be removed from any \ of the said vehicles, nor attached to i other similar vehicle after having j once so fastened. And it shall le j unlawful for any person or persons to i j any of tbe said vehicles on any of ] | the public highways of the City of 1 1 : Gape May unless the number assigned' : as aforesaid, shall at all times be in plain view on each of the said vehicles. ~ I Sec. 6. And be it .further ordained s and enacted that complaints for violations of any of tbe provisions of tbis b ordinance shall be made by the Mere cantile Appraiser before the Mayor or b Alderman of the Oity of Oape May, - and that any person or persons who i shall violate any of the provisions of r this ordinance shall, upon conviction s thereof, before tbe said Mayor or e Alderman, be subject to a fine in any f sum not exceedng fifty dollars for each . offence or violation, at tbe discretion f of the Mayor or Alderman before - whom any such person or persons may : be tried and in default of.the.payment n of such fine be imprisoned in tbe Oity or County Jail for any term not exe ceeding thirty days, in the discretion f of such officer. a Sec. 8. And be it farther ordained anJ enacted that tbe Mayor be, and be i hereby is authorized and directed, to use such of tbe police force of the City . as is necessary to execute andjenforce , this ordinance and to enforce all neceab sary and lawful police regulations that may best facilitate the carrying on of i the business of cars used for local pas- 1 - senger traffic and as may best protect and facilitate the carrying on of the 1 several businesses, trades and occupaf tions licensed by this ordinance. Sec. 9. And be It further ordained ■nd enacted, That all ordinances or parte of ordinances inconsistent with this ordinance be, and the same are hereby repealed ; and that this ordi- . nance shall take effect immediately ■ upon its passage and publication.
