THE LORD'S DAY. Devout Woman Voices Her Sentiments On The Indifference to the Lord's , Day. t Sermon by a Contributor) Stop one moment and think with me. is a very serious question ot today "the Tenth Commandment" more so, than the world dreams of. Look at thesigus and wonders cf the present time! Put the word superstition out of the way, and look up to the heaven, and see the warnings of a merciful God. The presence of God in the shape of the earthquake on April 23, 1910, nt half past six here in our town Cape May. I awoke at 6 and could not flecp, not long after terrible loud knocks were heard, and the doors and windows of my home wye shaken. The knocks resembled that of thunder. I at once thought this is an earthquake. I had experienced one before, then 1 kfrew- God's presence was evitable — strange to say on tbe evening of that i day I opened the Bible and to my surprise I read verse 32 in Psalm civ (104 ) "He -looked upon the earth arid it trembleth. He toucheth the hills and they smoke." There are good church pedple here, and lots of .good people, but are the Sabbaths kept as good as they reverenced in the past? No places of 1 amusements were open, no out-door pleasures Of a week day. Tnere were sacred concerts and the music was r i cred. No low vaudeville songs which at present day are doing much harm among our young people. Three weeks ago one of our store i (Christian people) said "one person from, each church at Cape May keeps 1 their place of business open on Sunday." Business houses must be closed so to i give those who" work all week, one day of rest We cannot expect to keep our good , health and nerve power if we do not rest as God did on the Seventh day. 1 Any work done on the Sabbath Day : will never bring success. The Sabbath was made for a prepare i tion for heaven. It should be the sumi mer of the soul. It i* the chief time I to gather knowledge to last us througt ( the following week, just as summer is , the chief season for gathering food to i last you through the following year 1 He that observes the Sabbaths is'Su^-e ! | he is in the right way. t The Sabbatli is a rainbow around t.,e ! throne of a nation. God's j . day is a day for social and moral intel | I lcctual development, a nobler nature than the world can inspire during the | other six days of the week. Neverthe- - less the Sabbath Day is not to be bur i densome. Is Sunday a day to be dread - : ed! if it is a prison that you wanted to escape from — what kind of a home has Christianity built for you!
^ i [ n Do Christian parents bring up their I children in this matter today! . ! 1 Why not make Sunday a Home d»v 1 as our grandparents dij} in that peaceful happy past! Make it such a day that when your children are at the home, they would rather be in their father's house 'than any where else. Everyone ought to make and arrange their affaire during the week so there should be no necessity for work on that day. From henceforth let this day be j precious in our dear Cape May.
