Lake, of ' Gold Spring, Sheriff to fill the unexpired 1 term of the late Sheriff Robert R. Cor son, whose sad death occurred suddenly on Sunday morning. Dr. Lake was elected coroner on the Republican ticket in the fall of 1906 by a large majority and his term in this office expires January 1st, 1912. To accept appointment as Sheriff be has resigned his office as coroner. He is very popular in political and professional circles and a close student of public affairs. He is a man of ability, who will undoubtedly perform the duties of his new office in a satisJohn K. Sparks, who has served under the late Sheriff at deputy, will probably be appointed as deputy to the new sheriff. There have already been man) conjectures at to whether Dr. Lake will become a candidate for Sheriff at the eoming primaries, but he has made no announcement on this subject He has a large and lucrative practice as a physician dnd this may preclude his seeking the nomination as it would involve more or less sacrifice to his professional interests. The new Sheriff will take the oath of office and file his bond before Judge Hildreth to-day (Tuesday.)
