NEWSPAPER "ADS" While nearly all now admit that advertising is necessary to a business enterprise, still there are those who have a lingering suspicion that newspaper advertising is too expensive and they can get along with small booklets, cireuUrs and dodgers, and thereby save

3 money. Often, in this way, an 'adrertfc* t er will spent! more money, in spasmodic efforts, than it would cost him to keep a display card standing in all the .local papers of his town the year round. The e manager of the gas company at Jackt son rill e, Florida, in a letter fo News paperdom, gives some interesting information upon this subject. This man says: "In my experience in j' various places in promoting the sale of .- gas I have used divers and sundryadvertising methods. I have used all the advertising novelties, from kites i that fly in the air elephants that tread ; r the earth. I have bought space from church fairs and from horse cars. I have | , used the backs of board bills and the ■ , fronts of billboards. I have employed i old ladies and little boys. I have offer- < ' prizes from a thousand feet of gas to < a ton of coal. Bat of all the schemes I ! tried for selling gas appliances I directly and gas indirectly none has c j p rover the real business-getter as has 1 straight-forward newspaper advertising." 1 All of which is true, as will be attested i thousand of business men. SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING A special council meeting was held last evening to eonaider the questions of providing an air lift system for the 1 , water works and sewer extension. ' c Mr. Suelke's motion also prevailed * that no one should tap a sewer without < first paying amount of assessment or ' giving bond for same to the amount o£. $200 for each tap. « The question of removing sewer con- 1 nections from creek was discussed and ' City Engineer Townscnd was authorized 8 to employ Engineer Ott for consultation.
