The Golf Links And Tennis Courts The goll sea sun for Cape May haa act tied down to a regular routine. Ko more the transient visitor tries vainly to capture that evasive 35 that he thought , on his first appearance was so easy, no more aoes the veteran fume imp. tiently while waiting his turn at the crowded tees. Only the regulars re main to enjoy the moat beautiful weather and a golf course dear enough to al low plenty of time for the golfer to play his shots properly and without hurry. W. D. McKeefry played hie farewell round this morning. Dr. Q. H. Shearer and G. H. Shearer , played a match in the morning. A. W. Durell and W. b. Bonsai are still with"' us. They cannot see any reason for leaving a place with such weatl. er and a convenient golf course. C. J. R. Sproul thinks likewise. He plays daily. —Dr. A. Cramer is still enjoying his vacation by spending the day at the links. Miss C. Zimmerman took a practice round in the morning. M. Bailey and J. A. Baker came up ai usual in the afternoon for tbfeir twosome. As this is our final effort we would sum up the results of the past season's golf in the one word "success." The membership of tne club has been heavy as to tax the capacity of the links to their limit, the demand for tennis courts has far exceeded tne supply and the many expressions of pleasure have amply repaid the officers of the club for their expenditure of time and energy in the direction of its affairs. The only regret expressed by both officers and players is that it seems impossible to devise any way to extend the present course to make an 18-hole links, it is to be hoped that in the near future some public spirited citizen or sonic friendly summer visitor will feel disposed to immortalize his name by bestowing this long hoped "for boon upon the faithful golfer of Cape May. For ourself, your humble corespondent we will only say, that our only aim has been to so chronicle the doings at the club that those interested might know whatever of interest was happening, and to give due appreciation to those whose unflagging efforts have made the season so prosperous and pleasant. It we have said anything to cause offense we beg forgetfulness and in parting would not only say "farewell" but "auf wiederschen." The regular weekly point scoring wo men's tournament was held this afternoon at the Cape May Golf Club. The prize in Class A. was won by Miss R. Dimond with a net 90. The scores were: Miss R. Dimond 104 14 90 Mrs. J. E. Satterfield 108 13 95 Miss G. Davis 95 0 96 The other in class A. withdrew. Mrs. R. W. Starr preseident of the Association won in Class B. with a net 111. The three set rule has been applied to many, and the expectations are that nothing like this will happen in the future as throe new courts will positively be erected this winter. If you should come to Cape May next season and desire to play tennis, the Golf Club Courts will he opened to transients and
will reoeire you and you friends if you nave played this season. The game has not reached full maturity as yet, j i for every year more courts must be ' made to accommodate the players. Next year there will be ten, and all in one place that seems most suitable for them. I Mr. Walter Starr, eon of Commodore R. Wj Starr of the Cape May Yacht Club, enjoyed several games at _the courts yesterday afternoon with Miss M. Loutenbach. He was captain of the base ball, basket ball and foot ball at the Delaacy School at Philadelphia, where he made sevesal unsurpassed records in the atheltic line. He enjoys all seashore sports and is very popular with the ladies as well as the gentlemen. j Since Lewis A. Phelps has been successful at tennis 'this year, his sister, Margaret, has decided to learn a few points about the game before leaving for . . school at Philadelphia. Mr. Fritz Freeman won three straight < sets from Miss Margaret Dimond yesterday morning. The scores were 6-2; 6-0 and 6-1. Miss Katberiue Hoorehead was down I with the De Silver girls. , Miss Samuel Bispham anw Mr. Wil 1 * liam B. Mount had singles in the morn- j ! ing. Miss C. Feeter was registered for the - day and played with Mrs. K. S. Green, Mr. J. HL Hillman, Jr., and Mr. G. K. , Crozer, Jr. Mr. J. G. French and Miss E. French won two of three sets played with Mr. j F. W. W. Graham, Jr., and Miss *B. s Reeves. They won the- brat by a 6-3, P but found that their opponents wanted r the other one badly enough to get a 9-7. „ Mr. J. G. Leach had a match against ' B Samuel Bispham, Jr., in the early aftert. Mr. W. Beiling tried the courts again t, yesterday afternoon with Mr. G. S. IreP land and Mr. F. C. Rogers. Y The steady playing keeps up and the j courts will be open for players as late „ as they wish to enjoy matches. All t courts were taken yesterday morning t and all but one in the afternoon. Very few regulars have gone away and the transients are not dropping off at all as there were more last week than the week before. Besides the regular tournaments for ladies and gentlemen to take place next season there will be a championship match of Cape May on , about the latter part of August This , took place a few years ago and was a . great event for lovers, of such ffairs. So , prepare for these events as this is the ■ through the Daily Star and Wave. The . last chance announcements can be made ; officers of the club have done their best , toward members and transients and de I serve great credit for their work. All [ rules that were made were for the benefit of all. We will say l are well until we meet again if providence perA SUCCESSFUL SEASON OF 19x0 1 The season of 1910 has been a most successful one at Cape May and also a most enjoyable one. The cottage colony has been full to overflowing and every hotel has had a successful season. In some cases phenomenally successful. Business houses, as a rule, have been kept busy supplying the various demands and a spirit of progress and activity has prevailed. Sports of all kinds have been thoroughly enjoyed and participated in by larger numbers than ever, and pleasant social events of various kinds have been numerous. The weather has been idfel, rarely interfering with the full enjtrement of life. The season ^of 1910 should be followed by building activities and other progressive movements. It has been amply demonstrated that wellkept hotels are Deeded that properly equipped cottages will always rent and that judicious advertising will produce < greater results at Cape May than any where else on the coast.. CAKE WALK A SUCCESS ( The cake walk and other festitives at I the Hotel Cape May, Friday evening last by the waiters of the house had the real Southern touch and were withnessed by a large adience.
