The Open Regatta A Big Success CAPE MAY'S FLEET CAPTURE A : GOOD SHARE OF THE TROPHIES :
The Sanfl Burr of Ventnor Wins in ] Speed Class— A Huge Crowd Enjoy The Beautiful Spectacle — Nearly two Hundred Boats in Harbor. ' Without doubt the finest event of the , season held under the auspices of the Cape May Yacht Club was the Open jRegatta for boats of all class es, includ- | ing boats from many different clubs along the Jersey coast, which took place in the Cape May harbor Saturday after- ( noon at two o'clock. There were boats representing almost every make of craft in the catalog of motor boats and launches. At one o'clock the time cards were distributed and every thing gotten in readiness for the race. The big schooner ( lay in the center of the course where the spectators could see all there was to be seen and the decks were soo ncrowd i ed to the rail with eager sight seers. The Bide-s-Wee was anchored at the flushing buoy just at the junction of the 1 starting position at one thirty and a few minutes the first race, the cruiser class was ready for the starting gun. Promptly at two o'cloek the starting , "boom" went reverbrating across the dancing sun lit waters and they were 1 off. The harbor was then the seen of the greatest activity i maginable, for the tardy launches aud r hundred other craft that had been tarrying at the wharves pet their propellers in motion and were soon surrounding tbt schooner so that by the time the prow of the first cruiser crossed the finishing line -there was a myriad of welcoming flags to greet her and a host of blaring horns to welcome her over the line. There were five races in all, and in each race appeared more than one class so that it made a very close finish and 1 a pretty sight for the onlooker. In each class there were at least two prizes and ( in one class three prizes were awarded. . In the final, or Free-for all-Race there ' were to be only two prizes, but because of the consistent sportsmanship of the Happy there was a special prize of an j ensign awarded. In the cruiser class, first, the Pasadena . took first honors while the Hudd X. earned away fce second prize. In the tame race but in second class the Idaho easily captured the first and : the Neiridea brought home the bacon, . while the Cora II was satisfied with the third honors. In the third class, canopy launches, the Anita won first and the Bess the second prize. The prizes in division two of the launch class, the open launches, was awarded aa follows. First to the Sue, second to Ben Riley, and third prize to ' the MaybeUe. The Daneva captured thr first prize in the division three classes one and two, but was protested. The Hoyden was awarded the second honors and if the protest stands against the Daneva there is some question as to how it will be finally settled, probably the first will be given to the Cape May boat and the second go to the next best in the race. Boats entered from Ventnor Club were Pasadena, Isabella, Sand Burr. From the Holly Beach Club came the Katherine, Anna E., Kathryn, Happy, Slick, Elamja, Veloce, Ruric and Gibson Girl. . The Petrel represented Ocean City. The Sea Isle Club entered Mary C., Daneva, Sne and Mary C., II. The^ttebel was entered from Wildwood. ^ The summary: CLASSES FIRST AND SECOND Two times around the course of 2.17 ; miles.
