The farmers of Cape May County are jubilant over one of tbe most successful seasons that they have experienced for many yean. The weather has been ideal for the growing crops and not a single corp has been a failure. The corn fields are showing every indication of a bumper crop and the plentiful rains of tbe summer has given the grass such start that a large hay crop will be harvested throughout the county. Sweet potatoes in many instances are at this early date yielding ten barrels to tbe thousand hills as an average all over tbe county, and prominent with others in that line are Edward Learning, of Cold Spring and the Bates brothers of Fishing Creek whose crops already promise immense yields. The berry crop of this summer, owing to the abundance of moisture, has yielded the owners of even small acreages, pleasing profits. William Ewing, whose Wonder Blackberry" is the talk and wonder ofgthe entire southern part of nuuuer ui, me enure noumern pari oi

the county, is the most fortunate in * that line as his vines have netted him, .. because of their phenomenal yield, a fine f, . Lewis Hoffman, of Cold Spring, has " been receiving congratulations from his jfellow farmers on being the most sue- s cess ful tomato raiser in the county and 0 that is but one instance which is one of many as the tomato yield has been large over the eounty. Canteloupes and water melons always a t good yielder in this county liave beer, ii exceptionally abundant and Eli Ruther- o fold on canteloupes alone has cleared > over five hundred dollars on one acre. I Fruit is abundant ail over the county, J the peach crop especially so. Garner h Han a, at Burleigh, having one of the ii best orchards in the country which is s yielding thousands of baskets a week p , which are being shipped to various larg*- <• cities. Senator Robert E. Hand'sfruit a farm at Rio Grande is easily second v best, while several other groves areship- v ping hundreds of baskets daily. -1 Late fall crops with the start they fnow have, will be as gratifying as the f earlier crops which is giving the fanners ! asperations to certain horseless vehi- 1 cles which have grown popular during -1 the past few years among the Cape May « farmers. i

Ho Democratic Candidate for Assessor or v . There is no Democratic candidate for w Assessor running this fall, the two can- pi didates, Irwin Eldredge and George L. tl Iswett, being Republicans. t< The residents and property owners of v ' Cape May County have every reason to * fee] exiUtant at the progress that is being m^de w ithin its borders. It seems " but a short time ago since this march of 1 progression- set in, bnt it has been so 11 great in its magnitude as to surprise even those who have been chiefly instru - ' mental in the work. Ten years ago the work of building good roads was commenced, but in a small way and in spue of much opposition, but since tnat time a strong sentiment has been developed q in favor of good roads, and the work of road bniiding is now progressing in the t; county at a rapid pace. Within the past decade the progress of the seaside re- _ sorts of tbe eounty have been marvelous, while tbe towns and the fanning districts all over the eounty have advanced beyond the moat sanguine expectations of the moat optimistic inhabitant. Official statistics, issued by officials of the state government, show that Cape May County baa, proportionately considered, made greater gains in wealth and population than any other eounty in tbe state, and the agencies that have i»

brought this about are stronger and more active today than ever before. And tbe progressive men of the countv c have not only come to fully realize that "in unity there is strength," but they collectively working upon this plan, ^ and the reault of aucir action has already ^ to be felt and seen. The seaside ^ resorts are now working in harmony in ^ the effort to make the eounty and its ^ many advantages better known, and in tnia way they haTe the approval and eo- * operation of the rural sections, which are ^ prospering as the reault this work. As | ^ stated, within the past decade, Cape May ; ! County has out stripped all other counties of the state in the acquisition ot wealth and population, and it is a ^ ■ safe prediction to say that within the ^ next decade it will more than double in ' .both.— Five Mile Beach Sun. ^ - The Burning of the Menhaden Factory If the burning of the Menhaden plant • at Lewes will do away with this nuisance there will be a number on this side i of the bay to rejoice. If the intention is , to rebuild there should be a fund raised » by tbe residents of tins city and Five Mile Beach to carry the matter into tbe I U. S. Courts and secure an injunction s against their farther operation, for the , reason that there are times when the stench blown across the bay from this i plant permeates tbe New Jersey shore , resorts for ton miles. It la injurious r ana outrageous. The Fish Commission 7 of the State is so little regardful of tbe ( s resorts and so much more favorably in- - dined .to the pirate trust that they col1 led a paltry license to permit these Ii pirates to rob our waters of tbe fish, but there should be tome protection from the stench arising from the factory. e The Colonial will probably remain - open until October 1st. i B The canvass of Assemblyman Christo1 pher S. Hand for renomination and reft election gives indication of large support ' in almost every precinct. h It used to be said of the Bourbons of w France, "They never learn anything t and they never forgot anything." This ■ is true of some near politicianers. e Precisely the same silly yarns which one • of the class invented in 1889 to arouse " prejudice in the county against candid dates to whom he was opposed, he is ing venting and circulating today to carry i- out his purposes. g Take a Foot-Bath To-Night [- After dissolving one or two Allen's Foot- , Tabs (antiseptic Tablets for the foot- ' bath) in the water.
