FOR RRPU*UC**S If the returns are rarraet as te this Sute Republicans, for the Arte time t* seranteen years, will have tha jtenaure watching and rriticising. This pkasura had begun to pill on the taste of Democrats but H will be new to Republicans and therefore enjoyable.
JOHN J. GARDNER Re-elected to Congress frj^Bnd district A DEMOCRATIC UPRISING In 1890 a Democratic wave swept through the country, bowling many a Republican State off its feet. In 1910 another Democratic wave has swept in like manner. Massachusetts har gone over to the So has Connecticut. So New York. So, apparently, havm Jersey and Ohio. Following the Democratic triumph in the State in 1910 the Democrats elected their President. This was in 1892. Than came the Wilson Tariff bill. Shall history repeat itself, as it eo frequently does, a Democratic President is due two years from now. But history need not necessarily repeat itself. There cannot be a Democratic victory in 1912 except by tbe aid of Republican votes. Shall the Republicans who deserted their party yesterday return to the fold all will yet be well. But — -it ■ may as well be confessed that there is going to be an up-hill fight ahead, and regular Republicans and "insurgent" Republicans and Colonel Roosevelt will have to pull together , for insurgency and the speeches of Colonel Roosevelt largely responsible for Tuesday's result. — Philadelphia Inquirer.
