Coast waterway likened •¥ to barred turnpike New Jerseys $000,000 inland waterway, stretching from Bay Head to Cape May, a distance of 114 miles, has been likened by Captain John l. Bailey, of the Atlantic City-Beach Harcn Transportation Company, to a turnipke with many barred tollgatea. "It ia a physical impossibility," l Captain Bailey declared, "to establish , steamboat lines on the inland water- - way between Atlantic City and Cape , May at the present time. There arc : eeventeen bridges between this city and Atlantic City alone, six within the lim. ( its of Atlantic City and another in .Ventnor. j "Comparatively few boats plying upon the Waterway can pass these bridges without the opening of the | draws. The journey from Atlantic City '( to Cape May would consume eight hours, three hours of which would be , lost in waiting for bridges to be opened. , In the immediate vicinity of Atlan- , tic City, boatment are seriously har.- , assed by a War Department ruling, limiting the opening of the three , brides of the Pennsylvania and Reading , lines over Beach Thoroughfare to 10 minutes, 20 minutes after each hour. There is no ruling as to the bridge o: the Atlantic and h'u'burban Railway, t a " trolley -line, and boatmen are held j up frequently for long delays. f The remedy is said to lie in the form- } Illation of new regulations by the War ' Department, requiring bridges to be higher above normal tide level and to j be equipped with motors for the rapid j operation of draws. t o t nelson -McAllister t Friend* in town have received cards e announcing the marriage of Mr. Joseph 1 Marcy Nelson, of Chester, Pa., and Miss 4 Maybelle MacAUister, of Buffalo, New 0 York, on Wednesday evening. The Shore Boulevard, Mr. Hogle says, in good shape from Atlantic High- j lands righf through to Cape May. This through route is completed by the new bridge to Ocean City, which is reached by going through Pleasantville to SomPoint and turning laft over the new bridge to Ocean City. From Cape May to Philadelphia the best route is by way of Tuckahoe, Mays Landing, Malaga, Glassboro and Gloucester. The route via Leesburg and Millville has several j stretches.
