THERE THINGS NEED ATTENTION There are a few things which need attention at Cape May and should be taken up by crtrrpublic spirited men. We will enumerate some of them. 1 . The beach should be kept absolutely free of debris and this can be easily accomplished by making a part of the duty of the life guards even if additional pay be given for the purpose. 2. Before another summer steps should be taken to drain all meadows between this city and the Delaware Bay and to oil all pools which cannot be drained. Men should be employed to keep at this 1 3
from May until October and the 1 investigation of every house yard 1 for neglected barrels of water ' should In- a part of their duty. 1 ' 3. The proper advertising of the resort should be placed in compe- I ti'Bt bands not later than April 1st, 1 ' aifd arrangements made to secure prompt atteutiou to every inquiry 1 Up-to-date advertising booklets ' should l»e provided and freely distributed. These are just a few little things to which attention is imperatively needed. iKOUBLOUS TIMES FORSEEN FOR YEAR 1914 Pessimistic Predictions of Mme. Thebe, French Prophet, Do not Affect United States (Nov. 24, 1913.) If all or even a part of Mme Thebee'a predictions for the year 1914 come true, the United States, and Philadelphia esj pecially, will be the only safe place for > anyone to live in. The famous woman, ' who ha* foreseeen most of the recent great catasthropea of the • world, says . it is not true, as some astrologers say, that the world is coming to an end in • 11114, but the French woman docs say" - that next year is to be one of the most • unlucky the world has ever known. The planet Mars will predominate *11 of next year. Mars, she says, means , that war will be threatened if it does i not actually , occur. This is taken by •some to apply to the present Mexican 1 crisis. But war is only one of the few predictions of trouble. 1 guidon is to be threatened by floods, a terrible catastrophe taking place as a result of the inundations that will arouse the pity of the whole civilised world. If tlic wornaus predictions come true next year, as they have a great many years in the past, the' world Slight jqst as wolf come to an end. The prophet also says Portugal is to I see a restoration of 4irn monarchy.; ' Austria will be sorely tried with rioting*; vthere is to be bloodshed and firt , in tlu\ streets of Vienna, even worse than th« time of Austrian -Hungarian troubles, which startled the entire world. Germany is to witness a severe up-
heaval, which will make many changes in her national life. France is promised riotts, bloodshed and industrial troubles. But America is to have a peaceful year, the woman vouchsafes, ' and warns all people to seek refuge in I this country if they want to be free from trouble next year. ASHBURN This advertisement paid for by L. C. Ashburn. . 1 For Nomination for County Clerk c Charles C. Bohm's Announcement I have decided to present myself as a candidate for the Republican nomination j for County Clerk after careful consid- . eration and consultation with many Republican voters in different sections of ( the oounty. The direct primary has been (prodded 1 for the express purpose of permitting j any candidate to seek the support of - voters without the aid of a convention and without appealing to any boss for the privilege of doing so. I do not recognize either the legal or moral right of the officers of the Republican County Executipi Committee or any self-ap-pointed grojip of bosses to name the can. didates of th'e Republican Party in this county. This power belongs to the Republican voters and I desire to earry ; out the purpose of the direct primary law "by seeking support directly of tbe Republican voters of the county. If , nominated I pledge myself to work faithfully for the success of the whole Bepublicnn ticket and if elected to devote myself earnestly to performing the duties of my office for the best interl ests of our county and the best conven1 ience of its patrons, without dictation from any source whatever, I respectfully. * solicit your support.
