COUNTY POULTRY ASSOCIATION'S SHOW The first aliow of the Cape May County Poultry Association was held with the County Fair on its grounds along the Parkway near Court House three ; Bays of last week and the promise of , good management in its being in charge of John X. Reeves, President of the County Poultry Association, brought out aa exhibit good both in numbers and gnality. The show was in a large tent. The Coops were roomy and well arranged and , a catalogue giving the complete entry . fa] detail was given out without charge. \ and where retained for reference must , -ke of lasting value both to exhibitors , and would-be purchasers of breeding . Stock and eggs. Poultry and their pro. j , ducts have at other of tie Cape May ; County fairs been in with the exhibits ! , of the granges, and there waa thus no chance for yj> in pari son of stock nor for ! , /exhibits from outside the County. This ( year arrangement brought the exhibits ! together, and resulted in an extended f acquaintance with breeders and their " methods, and the talking together t brought out a lot of practical informa- j tion not to be found in books. - Outside exhibitors were from Vineland and Miilville and where they own 1 the beat and lenow it all. These confessedly brought their best, wishing not t only to win prizes but to sell birds and t eggs for hatching and being mainly o Witfcut competition a$d with varieties r But known in the county except by name e succeeded in both. „ Awards in the County exhibit were: s Barred Rocks, cock and hen each first, n Charles L. Fidler, South Dennis; pen n of each old and young, De Hirsch School. Woodbine; cockerels, third and frfurth. County Farm, Court House. White Wyandottes: pen first, Do h Hirsch School; pullet, fifth. Wild wood J u Heights Farm. Whiteaboro. j p Rhode Island Reds, rose comb, pen of 1 t< young, first, Mortimer Hess. Cold j Spring; pen of- single comb, first, Dcjtl Hirsch School. j t. In other classes the De Hirsch School,

Won for light Brahma pullets, and sec | ond for pens of each old and young , white Leghorns. Jacob R. Gorges, Court j House, won all prizes for white Orpingtons except the pen for youngsters, and the Wildwood Heights yards won first for buff Leghorn hen. The duck classes were large and very interesting. Pekina were especially fine Wad Wildwood Heights birds carried everything except second for young males, this going to the De Hirsch exhibit. The Wildwood Heights exhibit winning also With pencilled, white and fawn Indian Banners. A pen of young black ducks of Lewis K. Wheaton, Court House, won flrat, a pen of old 1." -.In of William Steel", Court House, getting first also. Pigeons in both fancy and homer dasses were a large entry and. except, ing a couple of pairs, were all from Wildwood lofts. Embden and Toulouse geese were shown by the De Hirscli School and ev•rv bord was a prize winner. Two exhibits of the greatest practical value were, on Wednesday, of kill- j ing and dry dressing by Mr. Fox, the expert of Woodstown. and on Friday of caponizing by E. W. Twining of Af- : ton Farms at Yardley, Pa. Both opera- ' tione mean getting the highest prices ' la the food market and with the least ' "KSSTiia expense. Both are exceeding 1 ly simple— when one knows how, and the demonstrations left no excuse tor ' anyone tp be in ignorance. \ 1 POULTRY INSTITUTE AT SOUTH SEAVILLE ji Estimates made up from the year's j buying and from dealers' books show j ' that thousands of dollars have gone out , ' of Cape May County the past year fori' poultry and eggs, and. it doesn't make' the case any easier to bear to know that 1 1 a large part of the money has gone over I into Cumberland County.
